'Nomis' Filming Update: Sir Ben Kingsley On Set

Cameras are rolling tonight in Winnipeg, and we're getting our first look at Sir Ben Kingsley on the set of Nomis.

Eliana Jones also shared a quick update on working with Henry.

We got a glimpse at Henry and Alexandra Daddario's characters over the weekend, and at least she was off today.. and visited a sleepy polar bear.

Filming on Nomis began Saturday, and is expected to continue through the end of March. Stay tuned for the latest production news as they come in.

UPDATE 2/28: Cutie on set alert!

Henry's Superman Accent Gets The Thumbs Up From U.S. Actors

We know many of you can't get enough of Henry's British accent, but his American one is also pretty on point. And it earned him high marks in a new study conducted by language app Babbel.

Babbel commissioned ex-pat professional actors from both the UK and US to vote on a five-point scale on how convincing the accents were for leading parts in blockbusters grossing over $100 million.

For the United States accent, American Actors UK awarded British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor a 4.5/5 for his work as Solomon Northup in “12 Years a Slave.” Tied for second are the DC superheroes; Christian Bale as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman both garnered 4.2/5 scores.

Another Batman v Superman moment, so we'll cast the tie-breaking vote: Supes for the win!

We'll be hearing more of that commanding voice, when he returns in Justice League.

Thanks for the tip Barbara.

'Nomis' Begins Filming In Winnipeg: First Look

A post shared by Henry Cavill (@henrycavill) on

Nomis began filming in Winnipeg today, and Henry shared a first look at his character as he shot a scene in what appears to be a hospital.

Hello Marshall! (?).. this film already feels INTENSE with Michael Barrett in charge of the cinematography.

Earlier one fan got a chance to say hi to Henry:

Oh my God, Can't believe I just met Henry Cavill. Such an amazing guy. He is filming his upcoming movie Nomis here. Too bad I wasn't able to take a selfie cause he was working and too busy..

Avtar added he's just glad he met 'Superman.' Given the short production schedule for Nomis, there is a lot of work to get done in a little over four weeks. Not to mention how the weather could affect filming. Alexandra Daddario posted this pic from Canada. Chilly!

And this was Henry's cheeky message on her post:

"henrycavill @alexannadaddario Could you please stop hanging around outside my trailer. It's creeping me out."

To which she (just as wittily) responded:

"alexannadaddario @henrycavill I'm trying to get a selfie with you"

Can't wait to find out more about the characters that are bringing this comed.. err.. psychological thriller to life.

Beard lookin' sharp Cavill.

Henry's manager says she's headed to Winnipeg to see some of the filming before they wrap at the end of next month, so hopefully she's able to share some cool stuff as well.

UPDATE: Director David Raymond has given us a sneak peek from the Nomis set. We knew  it was a hospital.. and the revelation leads to SO many questions. Leave us your theories in the comments section!

Maybe the rest of the cast will fill in the blanks, now that some of those working on Nomis have begun sharing updates.

Henry is now in Winnipeg, as production for Nomis gets ready to go and it looks like he's bringing the badass!

He just shared this pic as he prepares for his role, in the film about a police force who nab an online predator (we hear it's twisty).

Buzz For Nomis, Winnipeg Starts Taking Notice

We have a first sighting in Winnipeg!.. kinda.

Angie ran into Henry at Starbucks today (#SaltedCaramelMochaccinowithskinnycoconutmilk) but didn't realize it was him until after she'd left.. which makes her expletive-filled reaction understandable.

With Nomis reportedly starting principal photography this week, fans living in the chilly city are beginning to take notice.

Henry even got some timely tips on what to see and do while he's there..

Hopefully he has time! -- If Nomis is filming for only a month, that means a very tight schedule with no time to waste. Then again, that maple syrup cocktail does sound tasty.

We know Sir Ben Kingsley was on his way to Winnipeg earlier this week, along with his bodyguard who shared this pic.

No word on whether Alexandra Daddario has arrived, but we hope she bundles up with temperatures in the twenties *but* above zero for now. BRRRR.

UPDATE: Sounds like she's there too now!

We're so excited to bring you production updates as we get them, in the meantime here's our initial wrap.

Henry's Superman Side Showing Again, Latest JL News

A post shared by Jason Fabok (@jfabok) on

Henry's Superman side showing again!

Over the weekend his fan Aqeel, noticed that Henry not only liked these two covers by Canadian comic book artist Jason Fabok -- he's now also following him on Instagram

Fabok recently worked with Geoff Johns on Justice League: Darkseid War.

A post shared by Jason Fabok (@jfabok) on

As we wait for the new Justice League trailer to drop (coming soon!), Beyond The Trailer's Grace Randolph has published an in-depth interview with the VFX team on Justice League and Batman v Superman. They give some really cool details on the process of creating the special effects you see on the big screen and tease a bit of what's ahead.

Heroic Hollywood's interview with the team, is a pretty good read as well.

Ahead of the Justice League release, Funko had this cool reveal..

And while we're definitely #TeamSupes, gotta say this Batmobile is a dream come true.

Finally, if you're in London this show is something you may want to check out.

'Nomis' Set To Begin Filming This Week, Lure Of Location

Image: L.A. Times

Exciting times indeed!

According to ACTRA Manitoba, Nomis will begin filming this coming Saturday, February 25 through March 28 in Winnipeg.

KFTV has some cool details about shooting in that part of Canada, and why it's a draw for moviemakers:

Manitoba lies in central Canada and is not known as a filming hub, but the province offers a 30% cost-of-production tax credit. Alternatively, a cost-of-salaries tax credit can rise as high as 65% for productions that fulfill specific requirements like filming in remote parts of Manitoba and involving a local producer.

Productions shot in Manitoba over the past decade or so have included the Oscar-winning Capote, the Antarctica-set thriller Whiteout and acclaimed western The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

Toronto and Vancouver are Canada’s main production hubs. Montreal’s profile is rising as the host of the X-Men franchise, while Calgary recently opened its first purpose-built studio and is home to the acclaimed TV version of Fargo.

Nomis is now listed on IMDb with a character name of "Marshall" for Henry. However since anyone can submit content to the site, we don't really consider it reliable info until it's been confirmed by official sources. Case in point: IMDb has removed a questionable synopsis that was submitted by a user a few days ago. It has been replaced by a plot summary that's very similar to the one released to the media when the cast announcement was made:

The film is about an American police force who trap an online predator, only to realize the depth of his crimes goes far beyond anything they had anticipated.

If you're just catching up, check out our initial wrap and look for the latest as we get it.

Nomis is set to be released sometime next year.

Good luck with filming everyone!

Snyder Celebrates 9 Month Mark With Justice League Sneak Peek

Zack Snyder/Vero

Exactly nine months to go until the Justice League release, and director Zack Snyder marked the occasion by releasing this behind the scenes look at his editing process. And we see a Batman fight scene!

We would have preferred if it had included Supes, but the secret back from the dead plot kinda prevents that (though some of you tell us you see him on the top right corner of the pic).

Is that you Superman???

Someone who will not be returning in Justice League is Clark's boss at the Daily Planet, Perry White. Actor Laurence Fishburne confirmed the news to the L.A. Times:

They asked me to come for a day, but I couldn’t work it out, schedule-wise. And really, what do you need the newspaperman in “Justice League” for? You want to see the Flash. You want to see Aquaman. You want to see Wonder Woman. You want to see the Lantern.

Batman v Superman/Warner Bros.

Hopefully Perry is back when Superman gets his second standalone film.

There is no official word yet on when the new Justice League trailer will be out, but it's looking like it could be next month. Hype! We'll keep you posted.

UPDATE (2/19): Zack's post about the trailer!

Henry Announces Project, 'Nomis' Starts Filming This Month

Huge news today, as Henry announced he's headed to Canada (in the middle of winter) to shoot Nomis. He'll be joined by costars Sir Ben Kingsley and Alexandra Daddario.

We don't know much about the plot, other than it's being described as a psychological thriller by his excited manager.

David Raymond (head of Arise Pictures) will be directing, and we can't wait to bring you updates on this film as they develop.

UPDATE: Raymond spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about working with Henry, and the article gives new details on the plot and filming location:

David Raymond wrote and directed the film about an American police force who trap an online predator, only to realize the depth of his crimes goes far beyond anything they had anticipated.

Raymond will also produce the pic alongside Fortitudes’ Robert Ogden Barnum, Arise Pictures’ Chris Pettit and Buffalo Gals’ Jeff Beesley. Rick Dugdale will also produce, and Fortitudes’ Nadine De Barros will serve as executive producer.

Fortitude International will introduce the film to buyers at the EFM in Berlin. Production is set to begin at the end of February in Winnipeg, Canada.

“I’m overjoyed by our cast,” said Raymond in a statement. “Henry’s got such a strong presence onscreen, but he’s also incredibly smart and has a wicked sense of humor. I think people are going to be blown away by what he’s going to do with this role. Sir Ben is always incredible. I wrote the character for him, so I was quite relieved when he signed on. Alexandra is a raw talent and has an undeniable electricity, which is exactly why I wanted her in this role.”

Here are a few of the director's scouting pics, that really give you a feel for the film.

One of our readers found this article that hints at production possibly happening in the Okanagan area, but it's from more than a year ago so things could have (very possibly) changed:

Jon Summerland with the Okanagan Film Commission says they need to find an old, decrepit, decaying castle-type house.

“The idea has to feel like this house in the middle of nowhere is almost a prison. The people who are there have nowhere to go — you can’t see neighbours, can’t hear neighbours, you can’t see a road. You’ve got to feel like there’s nowhere you can go to get away from this almost a fortress, prison-type thing,” Summerland says.

Finding the perfect house has proven challenging, and Summerland is asking anyone with leads to get in touch with the film commission.

“The house is the driver and the difficult one. Once we nail down this house — unless it becomes something else maybe — I’m confident everything else will be easy,” Summerland says (..)

With the search for a vintage-looking house proving difficult, Dugdale says they are looking at creative solutions and ways of possibly adapting the story to a different type of building.

“We have some options for sure,” Dugdale says.

The cast for Nomis is coming together, with "recognizable names and people we may have worked with in the past," Dugdale says. He’s not saying much about the movie itself, which he describes as dark and suspenseful — something in the vein of Gone Girl meets Seven.

“The reason we can’t give away too much is it’s so full of twists and turns, we have to be careful not to give it away too soon.”

More from the Vernon Morning Star (dated October 2016):

The North Okanagan is still in the running for another movie.

Hollywood-based Enderby Entertainment is scouting locations for Nomis, a thriller.

“We have to make a decision on where we will shoot it,” said producer Rick Dugdale. “There’s a possibility of Manitoba or Vancouver but we will focus on Vernon hopefully.”

Pre-production will begin in November, with filming underway in January.

The new schedule has forced some changes to the script.

“It’s tough to burn down a corn field in January so we need a different finale,” said Dugdale.

With Enderby being his hometown, Dugdale would like to film Nomis in the North Okanagan, but he admits there are possible hurdles.

“The thing missing in the North Okanagan is crew. If there was a full-time crew there, we don’t have the travel costs of bringing people up from Vancouver,” he said.

“If it comes down to $200,000 or $300,000 difference, perhaps we can look at Vernon.”

Manitoba has experienced crew available in Winnipeg and a range of tax incentives for film productions.

“But trying to convince actors to go to Manitoba in January is a little more difficult than B.C.”

Before settling on Manitoba, producer Rick Dugdale scouted locations in Louisiana.
