Mystery Solved: Cast Gathered In Detroit For Camera Tests

Everyone just stop. freaking. out. Wait, was that just us? it seems the mass cast exodus from Detroit this past weekend, was indeed for the Easter holiday and nothing to do with filming.

As you know, Chicago hit the jackpot when Henry decided to spend his days off there with the lovely Gina Carano. Check out the awesome pics and fan stories. The sightings kept coming in today.

So what was that blurry shot shared by cinematographer Larry Fong, that left us wondering if filming had begun? - the answer came from Superman's mom herself. Diane Lane provided some clarity of what the Batman vs. Superman cast was doing in Detroit last week, while talking to The Hollywood Reporter.

The actress told THR that she had just come back from Detroit, where they're doing camera tests for the highly anticipated sequel. She said that she filmed a few shots of her feeling the Superman costume and joked that she hadn't had the chance to do the same with the Batman costume.

"Feeling the Superman costume?" that just sounds wrong. Today we did hear once again, that filming is set to begin in mid-May like's it's been rumored. And don't forget Detroit, there's a casting call Sunday. BE THERE.

Wrapping up this update, we'd like to share Larry Fong's response, to those hating on the film and specifically Zack Snyder's direction.

Fans Meet Henry In Chicago: 'Batman vs. Superman' Ready!

Aren't we a lucky bunch this Easter weekend. First a fan meets Henry on his way to Chicago, and now Dave & April are sharing their account after meeting him at a Windy City restaurant & club today.

Check it out! Henry even signed his super cool wallet, aaaand Dave also got to meet Gina. Now we're officially jealous.

He shared the rest of his story with us (thanks so much Dave!):

I received a phone call from my boyfriend, around 3pm 420/Easter Sunday, who was waiting tables at Jack's on Halsted - 3201 N. HALSTED- and he said he wasn't sure but he thought Henry Cavill was there having brunch w an unknown female. I was house sitting at Irving Park n Kedzi area, so I flew over to Jack's w the hope of a pic n autograph...

Not wanting to get my boyfriend Barry in trouble, I made sure to get permission from Mr. Cavill to approach him after he was done eating cuz the last thing I wanted to do was annoy THE MAN OF STEEL! Anyway, Mr. Cavill said sure and my boyfriend said it was up to me now...so I took a breath and headed toward their table. I introduced myself to Henry and shook his hand then turned to the woman to shake her hand and introduce myself ...turns out the "unknown female" is none other than Gina Carano, star of action flick HAYWIRE, 2008 American Gladiator Crush, world champion MMA fighter. Said hello as Henry was standing up so my boyfriend could take our pic...I was breathless w the double wammy of the two cuz I love her too and wasn't expecting it to be her- I was floored. All I could say to her was that she was gorgeous. Then we took the pic and I handed him my wallet and a black marker - I came prepared for him, not her too tho!- as he signed, I gushed about how a great superman he makes and what a great job he's doin and congratulations and good luck w ur career. Then I walked away to compose myself..they were about to cash out when Henry went to the bathroom - exactly where I was trying to compose. I got out of his way and thanked him again. Then I said to my boyfriend- loud enough for Henry to hear- that I was leaving now so Henry would not get creeped out. But because I spazzed on Gina, I headed to her on the way out, to tell her that he was gorgeous as well as they were together! Congrats and happy Easter! Peace out, faster than a speeding bullet ;-)

The Chicago Tribune has more on the restaurant sighting. April (abrilstur on IG) met Henry at a club a little later. She added: "And some nights you meet Superman: Happy Easter, April." She called Henry "so polite," and said he didn't mind that her group asked for a pic "at all."

via atbeezy (IG)

Aaron (above) also met him at the club. He called Henry "hella inspirational" and "so nice."

Kani_a on IG said she "was about to leave" when she noticed Henry. She added that she's a huge DC fan. Check her profile for her lovely pic with Gina.

Thanks Jessica

Henry poses with Alex Quintero who is a bouncer at the club.

We saved the best for last! ShannonCLC on IG is the manager of the Vertigo Sky Lounge where Henry & Gina hung out. This is her pic. Thanks for sharing guys and as always thank you Henry and Gina for being so great with fans. We really appreciate it. Catch everything else from the weekend in this post.

'Batman vs. Superman' Filming: Back To Square One

Fan poster via its_Pancho_ on IG

If this week proved anything, is that following filming news on Batman vs. Superman will be tricky to say the least. Just as we started getting some good clues (or so we thought) on what's going on in Detroit, here comes the Easter weekend to throw us off track. Ben Affleck was supposedly in Detroit and we could have sworn he was the blurry figure in cinematographer Larry Fong's pic. But now he's back in Los Angeles along with Amy Adams, who was also in Detroit for just a few days. Even Henry left town. He was spotted by a fan on his way to Chicago, and *SHOCKER* wearing a different style of Ray-Bans. Yes everyone, Henry and his trusty Aviator sunglasses have parted ways, at least for this trip. Let's take a moment to remember the good times...

We may or may not be planning a "Bring back the Aviators" campaign.. how could you Henry ;) -- Anyway, we don't  know why he's in Chicago. So keep your eyes peeled, in case it's for filming.

Just to give you an idea of just how TOP SECRET this film is turning out to be, watch Batman vs. Superman production designer Patrick Tatapoulos skirt the question of what he would name the film (at 1:07 and again at 1:28). Warner Bros. is not messing around y'all.

Now here's a prediction that's easy to make. A week from today, this is the scene we expect at the film's casting call in Troy, MI. You know, just with costumes and the crowd chanting "MAN-OF-STEEL! SU-PER-MAN!"

But seriously, let us know if you're trying out for a chance to work on the film with Henry. Look forward to your tweets and pics, mainly because if you end up getting the job, you will have to keep mum or face the wrath of the studio that the production designer hinted at. Good luck Detroit!

Weekend Sighting: Henry Headed To Chicago, Beard Gone!

Sara (@sarabalara123) met Henry on her way to Chicago today. Is it a filming related trip for him? well the beard is gone! - Thanks for sharing Sara. Chicago/Yorkville fans, let us know if you spot any Batman vs. Superman filming at henrycavillnews@gmail.com.

When Did Batman Become Part Of The 'Man of Steel' Sequel? Director Sheds Light

Mark Hughes over at Forbes, had a chance to talk with Batman vs. Superman director Zack Snyder. It's an extensive interview we recommend you read. One of the things Zack reveals, is when Batman became part of the equation in the Man of Steel sequel.

I gotta be honest, it definitely was a thing that… after Man of Steel finished and we started talking about what would be in the next movie, I started subtly mentioning that it would be cool if he faced Batman. In the first meeting, it was like, “Maybe Batman?” Maybe at the end of the second movie, some Kryptonite gets delivered to Bruce Wayne’s house or something. Like in a cryptic way, that’s the first time we see him. But then, once you say it out loud, right? You’re in a story meeting talking about, like, who should [Superman] fight if he fought this giant alien threat Zod who was basically his equal physically, from his planet, fighting on our turf… You know, who to fight next? The problem is, once you say it out loud, then it’s kind of hard to go back, right? Once you say, “What about Batman?” then you realize, “Okay, that’s a cool idea. What else?” I mean, what do you say after that? …But I’m not gonna say at all that when I took the job to do Man of Steel that I did it in a subversive way to get to Batman. I really believe that only after contemplating who could face [Superman] did Batman come into the picture.

He goes on to talk about how cool it's been to see the Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman costumes together, but didn't give up much on when the official photos will be released:

Unfortunately, I don’t even know the timeline… Because the movie takes place so far from now, it’s hard to know exactly. That all gets tied to marketing and strategies for the movie. It’s not just a free-for-all, which I’d love it to be.

Then again he added this, after being asked about leaked set pics:

The one nice thing is that, the schedule is designed carefully so that I don’t know that that’ll be [a problem]– but who knows, these cats are pretty good at getting the drop on us with these photos. But, when we finally do show it, it’s gonna be real fun.

So what we think he's really saying, is that they're releasing the costume stills before they start filming anywhere where the paparazzi could scoop them out, aka on location.

Zack also mentions his surprise, after finding out how attached people are to the film version of Superman. Again, you'll want to read the whole article. Stay tuned for updates from Detroit!

Throwback Thursday: Henry Shines At WonderCon, What Surprises Await Us This Year?

The weekend is almost here, and for us that means a trip to Anaheim to cover WonderCon for you. Henry is not scheduled to be there, but DC & Warner Bros. are celebrating Batman's 75th anniversary with a special panel Saturday. With Batman vs. Superman filming about to begin in Detroit, you never know what may be revealed, so make sure you're following us on twitter for the latest updates. 'Batman vs. Superman' Watch: Major Players In Place, Zimmer In Talks To Score Film

It's coming.. we can feel it.. any day now! - as cast and crew continue arriving at home base aka Detroit, we're thinking filming on Man of Steel 2 is about to begin (or is already underway). No official date has been given, but today cinematographer Larry Fong shared this exciting update from Michigan. Is that Ben in the background??
As we were first to report Sunday, photographer Clay Enos is now in Detroit. He shot most of the amazing pics you saw during the promo for Man of Steel, including the EW cover that featured Henry last April. Clay shared the update by including a picture of himself in costume during the filming of Man of Steel. He added the hashtag "Autumn Frost," which was the working title for the film (as you know Sage and Milo is the name for the sequel).

Today he shared this photo from the Michigan Motion Pictures Studios in Pontiac.

Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, and trainer Mark Twight all arrived in Detroit over the weekend. New cast member Tao Okamoto, today showed us a bit of what the weather is like there for them right now (the beanie lives!).

So who is missing? Lois Lane herself! although she reportedly flew in Monday night. That's according to a teenager with a camera in a dark room somewhere in Detroit. Welcome to the Snowden era of reporting everyone. UPDATE 4/18: Yeah.. she's now in LA.

We're sure there's A LOT more of THAT on the way, but the news we can confirm, is that the very awesome Hans Zimmer is in talks to score Batman vs. Superman. He shared the news with Digital Spy:

"We've already had a couple of chats, and once I finish the movie that I shall not talk about I will probably head over to where Zack is shooting his movie and just hang out a bit and see if we can come up with any ideas."
He goes on to talk about the only concerns he has about returning to score the Man of Steel sequel. Read the rest at Digital Spy.

We are big fans of Zimmer, because he's an amazing composer that puts together what can only be described as auditory works of art (check out some of the Man of Steel behind the scenes). But what we love is that he really connects with his fans. From Reddit Q&As to continued updates on Facebook and Twitter, to giving us a tour inside his studio, the man shares so much. Can't wait to see what he brings to Batman vs. Superman.

Warner Bros. is giving a shout out to Man of Steel for its win at the MTV Movie Awards. We know you really mean Henry WB.. ;)

As you know Man of Steel is now playing on HBO and for you UK fans, it will soon be available on Sky Movies that shared this new video with Henry previewing that cable premiere. Enjoy!

Filming news coming in fast now, and you can bet we'll be bringing it to you as it happens. If you live in the Detroit area and have tips/pictures/videos to share, we'd love to hear from you as well. Here we go everyone!

It's Official: Henry Wins 'Best Hero' At The MTV Movie Awards

Congratulations to Henry for winning Best Hero at the MTV Movie Awards and to all of his fans for making it possible. He couldn't be at the show because he's about to start filming Batman vs. Superman in Detroit. The results were not announced during the telecast (don't get us started on that), but were confirmed by EW and USA Today. So happy for you Henry, go get them Man of Steel!

Thanks for the help @canada_panda.

MTV Awards Preview, Instagram Outage 2014, UK Getting 'Man of Steel 2' First

UPDATE 4/13: The Best Hero award goes to HENRY CAVILL. We'll be back with a vengeance in a few years MTV #BatmanvsSuperman #Takeover.

The voting has closed. Now we're just waiting to hear whether Henry gets a Golden Popcorn as Best Hero
at the MTV Movie Awards. Superman IS facing some tough competition, mainly from Iron Man who just "happened" to join twitter leading up to the last few hours of voting. Well played Robert Downey Jr. but we believe in our Man of Steel..

and we'd pick him (up) every time #BestHero

We don't expect Henry to be at the awards, because he's been in Detroit since January preparing for Man of Steel 2. But we'll be sure to let you know if he wins. Good luck Superman!

As we try and keep up with the latest from Michigan, Instagram broke down for a few hours. Without getting into the #$@&%*! that took place, we can show you our reaction.

Just as we began considering checking Batman vs. Superman hashtags on Facebook (shudders) IG was up, and it was once again safe for the world to post selfies. Phew. On the bright side at least it didn't happen next week, when we'll be at WonderCon with potential film news!

As you know Ben Affleck is reportedly already in Detroit, along with Gal Gadot. There have been no sightings there just yet, but before Batman left L.A., he was spotted by the TMZ tour bus. Ben. Freaking. Affleck.

Love that TMZ crew.. after all they've brought us plenty of memorable Henry moments like this one.. or this one. But back to Detroit, new cast member Tao Okamoto confirmed her arrival in the Motor City Friday. She called it a "day trip" and posted this picture on Instagram. We're staying on top of the latest but appreciate your pics and tips: henrycavillnews@gmail.com.

You guys in the UK must be smiling BIG. This week The Playlist was first to report that the Man of Steel sequel is set to open in the UK, a whole week ahead than in the U.S. -- here's their theory on why that decision was made:

Perhaps WB is more concerned about the all important international box office anyway. It accounted for over 55% of the $668 million worldwide haul of "Man Of Steel," so maybe it's no surprise that they aren't taking any risks there, with "Batman Vs. Superman" reportedly scheduled to open on April 29, 2016 in the U.K. — one week earlier than the U.S.

For now the game of chicken between Warner Bros. and Marvel continues with the May 16, 2016 U.S. date. We're guessing when/if that date changes, so will the UK one obviously.

Some great news to wrap up this week. Guess who was among the top three highest selling Blu-rays in 2013? goooo Man of Steel.

Stay tuned for EVERYTHING Batman vs. Superman. Unleash the Superman already Zack Snyder!

U.N.C.L.E. Cinematographer Calls Henry "A Peacock," Says "He's Very Funny" In The Film

Not many things could top our excitement with filming about to begin on Man of Steel 2, but today The Man from U.N.C.L.E. cinematographer managed to do so!

Speaking at a London event, John Mathieson gave us a preview of what we're in for, when it comes to American spy Napoleon Solo:

"I thought Henry was terrific. He plays it quite humorously, everything's slightly quirky, slightly sharp. It was very comic strip in some ways, I mean that in a good way."

"He plays it very differently [to Superman], this is much more earthbound. He's a peacock, and he's very funny. I thought he was great."

Those are the kinds of comments that have us wishing the film would open NOW. Of course we have to wait until January, but Mathieson confirms what we'd heard from fans who visited the sets: this is gonna be an awesome, funny, action-packed film. Read more about the look and the mood director Guy Ritchie was trying to achieve during filming, then catch up on ALL of our U.N.C.L.E. coverage with the help of these handy links: 1/2. Batman & Wonder Woman About To Join Superman In Detroit

It's finally happening..

The DC Trinity is assembling in Detroit!

The news was confirmed by Ben's wife, Jennifer Garner on the Tonight Show Wednesday. We LOVE her.

"I get home Friday and then he leaves.. that day for Batman, it's time."

WATCH  (at about 2:39)

Despite saying she wouldn't be talking Batman vs. Superman because she got in trouble last time, Jen also mentioned Ben's 17-inch biceps and workout routine during her interview with We Got This Covered.

If that's some sort of intimidation tactic Jen.. we wouldn't go there ;)

Henry & Gal's trainer Mark Twight, gave us the heads up about Wonder Woman's imminent arrival in Detroit, when he tweeted he was on his way back to Michigan Wednesday night.

We also got a first look at the two of them together during a workout in Tel Aviv via Ynet (lookin' good!). The site was the first to report that Gadot was headed to Detroit. See the rest of the pictures.

Don't forget costume designer Michael Wilkinson is also on his way to Michigan, yup.. we'd say filming is around the corner! -- if you spot any filming or superheroes around town, let us know Detroit fans by emailing us at henrycavillnews@gmail.com. Go get them Superman!

Batman vs. Superman: Costume Designer Headed To Detroit, WB Not Moving Date

Just like he confirmed to us, today costume designer Michael Wilkinson gave twitter a 48-hour heads-up before he leaves for Detroit to prepare for the start of filming on Batman vs. Superman.

When we chatted with Wilkinson last month, he told us he'll be there until December. No official word on when filming is set to begin, but it's expected to be soon.

Seems like someone got in trouble for talking about Man of Steel 2 with the press. Jennifer Garner gave the details to Collider, and then added you won't get zip from her anymore. Booh. Hear her comments at the very end of the interview.

Man of Steel 2 is set to be released May 6, 2016 and Warner Bros. is not moving, at least for now. A day after Marvel officially announced 'Captain America 3' will come out on the same day, Bloomberg got this reaction from the studio:

“It doesn’t make a lot of sense for two huge superhero films to open on the same date but there is a lot of time between now and 5/6/16,” Dan Fellman, president of domestic distribution for Warner Bros. in Burbank, California, said in an interview. “However at this time, we are not considering a change of date for ‘Batman vs. Superman.’”

Seriously though, what did people expect him to say. All we've heard and have been reporting, is that the superhero showdown is never gonna happen. The decision to move could come as early as tomorrow or two years from now, so all we're saying is don't hold your breath.

Another interesting rumor going around, is who Holly Hunter could be playing in Batman vs. Superman. Does the name Leslie Thompkins sound familiar? -- Head over to Latino Review to check it out.

Look for the latest updates as we get them. Just a few more weeks to go!

U.N.C.L.E. Reshoots This Week: Fan Photos From Italy To Hold Us Over Until January

As Henry continues to sport his mountain man beard in Detroit, we'd almost forgotten how good he looked as he filmed The Man from U.N.C.L.E. last fall. These are some new (old) pictures from Italy. The top one was shared by Genaro who owns the restaurant Henry dined in one night. You can see more in our posts from that day 1/2.

Joey met Henry while on vacation in Rome. Henry was off from filming that day and ran into other fans that shared their awesome encounter with us. Read all about it and catch up on everything U.N.C.L.E. with the help of these handy links: 1/2. As we told you last week, reshoots are happening at the Warner Bros. studios in the next few days. Henry won't be there but we'll update you if there's any news out of London.

Could This Be The New Look? + Box Office Battle Officially On & Birthday Wishes For Superman's Dad

We like the way @SuperheroReport thinks. Over the weekend they tweeted this potential version of what the new Man of Steel suit could look like. Of course we really have no idea if that's the case, but we had been thinking the same thing since we developed our "Infinite" crush on animated Supes. Would the New 52 version of Man of Steel be something you'd welcome? either way, we're sure Henry will look amazing.

We were pretty bummed to hear Russell Crowe pretty much confirm that he won't be making an appearance in the sequel. As you know he shares a special bond with Henry, and today we'd like to wish him a very Happy Birthday. We'll miss you Jor-El!

For those of you not keeping track of Batman's progress, Ben's trainer gave a quick update on the "real-life superhero" look they are trying to achieve. He then deleted the tweets. Oops, somebody may have said too much.

Isn't this the best cake EVER?  it was posted by Tao Okamoto on Instagram, after the news broke that she's joining Henry in Batman vs. Superman. Sweet.

Callan Mulvey was also announced as a new cast member and now he's speaking about working with director Zack Snyder.

“Zack is such a visionary, so I know it’s going to be an amazing project,” Mulvey told Confidential from Los Angeles, not able to speak specifically about the yet to be titled Batman film or his still unannounced character.

“Talent as a director aside, people really love working for Zack and being on his sets, which says it all really.”

Mulvey is currently appearing in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, that racked up some impressive box office numbers over the weekend. In fact today Marvel made it official: the third installment will open on May 6, 2016. The same day as the Man of Steel sequel. Who will move and how soon? place your bets! -- We're trusting a biz man who knows what he's talking about.

And then there's this. In a new interview with IGN, Man of Steel screenwriter David Goyer talked about Marvel and why it's not about doing what they're doing. He also mentioned the challenges of writing Man of Steel and talks about a more cohesive DC universe. Give it a read.
