Henry as Solo, "Suave Like Sean Connery's 007"

More praise coming in, for Henry's take on American spy Napoleon Solo in The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

The Thrillist has just given him a big shoutout!

Henry Cavill, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Was the movie too silly for the audience that flocks to Daniel Craig's gritty iterations of Bond, too serious to come off as more than a spy movie imitator, or was the title too confusing? Whatever the case, people didn't show up for The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Guy Ritchie's swinging adaptation of the 1960s TV series, and Henry Cavill's performance -- suave like Sean Connery's 007, but with a touch of Indiana Jones' prone-to-error goofiness -- went completely overlooked. Cavill, strangled by his stoic role as Superman, comes to life as Napoleon Solo, whose knack for planning and eye for style set a bar for franchise leading men. Dapper is the new tough. Take us to the mirror universe where this movie made $300 million, please. -- Matt Patches

And you know Henry is all about setting the bar. Congratulations Solo.

Visual FX Hub today shared a clip reel, that includes some key The Man from U.N.C.L.E. scenes before and after the special effects were added. Don't miss it.

Now that U.N.C.L.E. is out on home video, we're really happy to see more people watching the movie, and loving Henry as Solo. The recognition is well deserved.

Mexico, you'll soon be able to own it!

And UK, you still have a chance to win a copy.

Hope you're having a great week everyone.

  1. Hi, just wondering if anyone knows what the final box office figures were for MFU. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to see a sequel.

    1. According to what I can find online.
      Domestic Box Office $45,445,109
      International Box Office $60,000,000
      Worldwide Box Office $105,445,109

    2. Also, worth mentioning, budgeted at a reported $75 - $80 million and that's not including marketing and distribution expenses. Those included they could easily lift its cost to $120 million.

  2. I completely agree with the Thrillist! Not enough people saw MFU, but those that did really liked it. I've seen the movie along with Henry get mentioned in several year end recaps. At least MFU and Henry are getting some sort of recognition.

  3. I liked the appearance by the Supersideburns! Continuity people, continuity!

  4. I could play this movie on continous loop if for nothing else than the soundtrack. Cavillface would just be a bonus.

  5. Glad they note Henry being strangled by the stoic Superman role. Its clearly the way they are directing/writing Henry in MOS and BvS that keeps his acting verve from coming out.

  6. Is there a chance WB might try a second UNCLE film? I know it was a financial disappointment but the foundation is there.

If Henry agrees to sign on for one more film - Justice league 2 - will UNCLE factor into what WB would offer him for JL2? If he agrees to do JL2 I want him to get the raise he deserves for doing the film.

  7. The Justice League is led by Supes and Bats. There is no Justice League without Supes. That's just a fact. JL1 is getting ready to begin shooting and JL2 has been announced. Something dire would have to happen for JL2 not to happen with Henry as Supes. It would make abdolutely no sense in any scenario. There was no real criticism of Henry as Supes. The only real criticism was for the script and the level of action and tone. The fanboys, for which this movie was made, love Henry as Supes. The real question is will there be MOS2. It has been announced but no further discussion. Zack Snyder loves Supes. Zack is a Supes guy. So if there is money to be made, we'll get MOS2 with Henry.

    2. Unfortunately MOS did not perform to WB's expectations. So they shifted to BvS WB may feel that there is not money enough to be made with MOS2. Doesn't sound like it is happening.

    3. Introducing the JL was part of the plan before MOS came out as part of DC's plan to compete with Marvel/Avengers. BvS was the way to intro the JL - back to the books and JL canon. I encourage you to read some of the books. You msy understand better how and why the JL comes together. Supes is the catalyst, the touchstone, the center, the reason the DC cinematic universe exists. Henry will be around as Superman for awhile longer.

  9. I am so disappointed that more people didn't see MFU. I don't see how it could have been better. Could it be that people still aren't familiar enough with Henry and Armie? I so thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It had everything: style, humor, fantastic soundtrack (I have the CD that I listen to all the time), fabulous clothes, not to mention great acting. I am not a comic book fan and so the role of Superman in and of itself doesn't thrill me much in addition to movies that are nonstop special effects. With that being said, however, I will see Batman vs Superman because of Henry being in it. I think he is that special.

  10. As long as reviewers are honest and fair in reviewing Henry's BvS performance I will be happy. Don't want any baggage from MOS to slant their reviews. Especially given everyone is waiting to praise Affleck to high heaven as Bats.

Amazing Spiderman was similar to MOS in underperforming and Sony fired Garfield despite Garfield being great. Actors get the blame it seems when its not their fault.

  11. Cavill is at a dis-advantage because of MOS negativity by some that gets put on him wrongly. Unfortunate he said BvS does not correct the MOS issues.

That list of 2015 actors from November was snarky at Henry. BvS a pivot point one way or other for him? Please.

Yes, he is at a dis-advantage among the actors but only because the other actor's films come after BvS and JL and likely get big boosts that MOS did not have.
