Just a day after reporting that production continued on The Witcher in the UK, Netflix has now apparently halted filming on the show due to the spread of the coronavirus around the world.

The Wrap reports that for now, Netflix has paused production for two weeks. The second season of The Witcher is set to premiere next year.

UPDATE: Deadline has released additional details on the decision to temporarily shut down the show:

We have made the decision, effective immediately, to pause production for two weeks during this difficult time… this will allow everyone the time to make informed decisions about how to move forward.”

The coronavirus has raised challenging issues for everyone working on set on productions for Netflix. We are very grateful for all the work everyone has done to keep cast and crew safe during this pandemic.”

UPDATE #2: The Witcher S2 actor Kristofer Hivju has announced he's now at home in Norway, after testing positive for COVID-19.

Greetings from Norway! Sorry to say that I, today, have tested positive for COVID19, Corona virus. My familiy and I are self-isolating at home for as long as it takes. We are in good health - I only have mild symptoms of a cold. There are people at higher risk for who this virus might be a devastating diagnosis, so I urge all of you to be extremely careful; wash your hands, keep 1,5 meters distance from others, go in quarantine; just do everything you can to stop the virus from spreading. Together we can fight this virus and avert a crisis at our hospitals. Please take care of each other, keep your distance, and stay healthy! Please visit your country's Center for Disease Control's website, and follow the regulations for staying safe and protecting not just yourselves, but our entire community, and especially those at risk like the elderly and people with pre-existing conditions. @grymolvaerhivju #fightcorona #solidarity #takecare #folkehelseinstituttet Thanks to @panoramaagency

I hope anyone that is infected recovers quickly, and everyone else remains healthy. Shutting everything down for two weeks is a very responsible action to take, given the current situation. By the way, given how many people are forced into a quarantine situation, I expect there to be a huge baby boom coming December and into the new year. If you are stuck at home with the right partner.

  12. Eventually this pandemic will subside and meanwhile, we need to keep up spirits up looking forward to when life and The Witcher resumes. I never played Wild Hunt until I saw The Witcher series, and Henry Cavill gave a whole new dimension to Geralt. I'm so glad that I am living in this time when electronic miracles can occur, thanks to the cast of The Witcher. Stay safe, friends.
