Building A Bigger Action Hero: The Henry Cavill Way

We've all noticed it in recent fan pictures, Henry is back in Man of Steel shape (some say even bigger than last time) as he prepares to put on the Superman suit once again in Batman vs. Superman. As you know if you've been following our updates since last year, building that massive body is no easy task. Men's Journal talked to Henry's trainer Mark Twight, for a feature on "Building a Bigger Action Hero." The entire article is a MUST READ, but we're highlighting his comments, along with those of producer Deborah Snyder. The story deals with the pressure for actors to have the muscles of the characters they are chosen to embody, and the different routes taken to achieve that. In Henry's case, all hard work and determination.

"On the set of last summer's Superman – Twight banned junk food and soft drinks from the set, as he continued to sculpt the new Man of Steel, Henry Cavill. The trainer has nothing but praise for Cavill, who had to keep up his physique for a grueling 127-day shoot. "It's not like you're peaking a guy for three days for his shirtless scene," Twight says. "You're living with this guy for a year."

For the six months prior to the shoot, Cavill worked out and ate according to Twight's plan. The film's producers actually contacted Twight and his wife, Lisa, a trainer, to make sure they weren't giving Cavill anything illegal. With tarnished heroes like A-Rod and Lance Armstrong, it was important to establish that our most American superhero wasn't a juicer.

"Someone in production had me more than pinky swear," says Lisa, leaning on a stationary bike. "They told me that they'd be drug-testing Henry."

Did they?

"They never tested him," says Twight, "but I gave them a list of every supplement, with contact numbers."

Henry helps out trainer Michael Blevins at the Michigan Barbell Competition in February

Twight says there is a secret to Cavill's transformation. "Yeah, there's a 90-day miracle, but you're not gonna fucking like it," he says, laughing. "It's hard work. It's commitment. Self-discipline. Persistence. And mindful attention to all this stuff. Then you can become whatever you want."

As Deborah Snyder puts it, the full transformation is key to getting any action role in Hollywood:

"A decade or so ago, Stallone and Van Damme and Schwarzenegger were the action stars," says Deborah Snyder, who produces husband Zack Snyder's films: 300, Man of Steel, the upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie. "Now we expect actors who aren't action stars to transform themselves. And we expect them to be big and powerful and commanding."

And that is exactly what Henry has achieved. These days Superman is looking more than ready to take on Batman, and to hear him say it, even Doomsday. Read the complete article at Men's Journal.

'Justice League' On The Way, Will Be Directed By Zack Snyder

It's the announcement we knew was coming, we just didn't expect it so soon. A Justice League film will follow Batman vs. Superman and (this was a surprise) it will be directed by the very awesome Zack Snyder.

Warner Bros. president of worldwide production Greg Silverman, confirmed the news to The Wall Street Journal:

Like “Man of Steel” and its follow-up, which starts production next month, “Justice League” will be directed by Zack Snyder. Henry Cavill is expected to return as Superman, along with Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot, who play Batman and Wonder Woman, respectively, in 2016’s “Man of Steel” sequel tentatively titled “Batman vs. Superman.”

“It will be a further expansion of this universe,” said Mr. Silverman. “’Superman vs Batman’ will lead into ‘Justice League.’”

A script is still in development and Warner has not set a release date, though the movie is unlikely to come out before 2018. Mr. Silverman would not comment on what other heroes might join Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman in the movie.

The Hollywood Reporter says Batman vs. Superman and Justice League will be shot back to back, and estimates Justice League actually could come out in 2017.

GOOOOOOO Zack Snyder. More Henry as Man of Steel: #yespleaseandthankyou.

We LOVE this guy..

Luckily even with the long lines and cold weather, those waiting took it all in stride..

Sure, being an extra means long hours and okay pay, but the chance to work with Henry, director Zack Snyder and the rest of the cast and crew?.. we'd do it for FREE

So what roles are available? everything from an F.B.I. agent to a baker according to Aviano, who spoke to the local FOX station.

Batman vs. Superman: Who Do Stars Prefer? - Casting Reactions Pt. 2

You have to hand it to the guys over at Total Film. For months now, they've been asking every star they come across to make the ultimate choice: Batman or Superman?.. this group pretty much sucks. Whatever Batman lovers. More Superman for us to go around.

Today we're also still reading your funny reactions on twitter, after the latest Batman vs. Superman casting news. Here are a few of our favorites.

And what's wrong with THAT??? - we happen to like troubled men ;)

You guys crack us up. The Film School Rejects article is actually a really good read, highlighting why having these characters in the Man of Steel sequel could be a good thing. Since we're talking other superheroes, we have a bit of an update on Wonder Woman, courtesy of  Gal Gadot's Fast 6 costar Gina Carano. ;) -- She talked to the Toronto Sun about her experience working with Gadot, and the criticism that has come from some fans thinking she's not strong enough to play the role:

“I worked with her on Fast & Furious 6, and she’s amazing,” says Carano. “Such a great person with such a solidness in her character, so I’m very excited for her to do that.”

“I think people have an idea what they consider Wonder Woman. I definitely know (Gadot) has been training and there’s so much more that goes into being a strong female character.”

Have a little faith, this film will be AWESOME. Enjoy your weekend everyone.

Sexy Solo Alert: New Behind The Scenes Pics From U.N.C.L.E. - More From Jared Harris

Check out Henry in that snazzy 60s suit! - Aerogroup Errichiello, shared these great new behind the scenes pics from the Italian set of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Filming took place in Rome and Naples last fall.

The cute one with the grin and the mustache, is the man that's gonna give Solo a beating. Don't think we've forgotten about that Luca Calvani. For those of you catching up, here's a little preview.

Earlier this week Jared Harris revealed his connection to Solo, and now he's teased a little more about what fans can expect when U.N.C.L.E. hits theaters. This is what he told Collider:

I don’t want to speak too much about anything specific, because they want to do that when it’s appropriate for them, when they get ready to get everyone keyed up about it- but it’s set in the 1960s, it’s a Cold War spy story. It’s got Guy’s sort of signature mix of a great sense of humor, a good exciting adventure, action sequences, and that sort of signature visual style that he has. It was great fun being there, it’s always good fun on one of his sets.

Just yesterday Henry was in a Detroit studio doing some ADR work for the film, and the excitement is definitely building! - The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is set to be released January 16, 2015.

Henry Gains A New Costar: Ray Fisher Tapped To Play 'Cyborg'

Variety is confirming the latest cast member set to join Henry in Man of Steel 2. Ray Fisher has reportedly been tapped to play Cyborg:

Cyborg, while not a major part in the Batman-Superman feature, is a member of the Justice League and will become a much more significant role as Warner and D.C. develop more films related to the Justice League universe, sources confirm.

The Hollywood Reporter has more about Ray's role:

Stone/Cyborg was for decades a member of the Teen Titans, a group of heroes that included the sidekicks of adult heroes such as Robin, Wonder Girl and Kid Flash. The character became retrofitted to be a member of the Justice League in 2011, when DC Entertainment relaunched its comic book line as the New 52.

Warners quietly added the character to its casting call several months ago, when it began looking for a physically fit black actor. The part at the time called for only one scene but promised more in terms of future movies.

The casting news really doesn't come as a surprise, since a few months ago Latino Review revealed that Warner Bros. was looking for someone like Ray, and they even guessed it was for the role of Cyborg. And as a fan pointed out...
That's right! - Man of Steel knows everything.. watch him talk about Cyborg at about :40. Henry was promoting the Man of Steel Blu-ray release and was excited about the prospect.

So far your reaction to Cyborg's addition to Batman vs. Superman has been pretty funny. You guys, trust the powers that be.
The latest casting does narrow down the field of possible roles The Rock could be playing, as Mark Hughes over at Forbes points out - READ MORE. And we tend to agree with this prediction from Latino Review.

So what do you think? sound off in the comments section. Batman vs. Superman production updates as we get them, extras casting call THIS SUNDAY

Henry Back In Detroit: Doing Post-Production Work On U.N.C.L.E.

The folks at Ozone Music and Sound, today shared this picture of Henry in their Michigan studio. First thought: CURLS. Second thought: SEXY CURLS! - but once we stopped fangirling, our next thought was: BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN! (yes, we like to shout a lot). Ozone Music and Sound does a lot of ADR work, but that's usually in post-production. Sound engineer Marty Peters confirmed the work was for The Man from U.N.C.L.E., which is coming to a theater near you next January. Go Solo!

Henry just returned from Chicago, where he spent some quality time with the gorgeous Gina Carano and the fans lucky enough to run into them. Don't miss their awesome selfie and everything else from the trip.

Selfie Love With Henry Cavill & Gina Carano In Chicago

We're seriously having a hard time concentration on real life this week with all of the CUTENESS out of Chicago. Yes, we blame you Henry and Gina. This new pic is our favorite by far. This is what Olivia had to say after hanging out with the super couple at a Windy City club:

“Whee, terrible selfie with some cool people."

If she only knew the whole fandom would kill to be in her place. Thanks for sharing!

For those of you catching up, here's everything else from Chicago. We can't even tell you how grateful we are to Henry & Gina, for being so awesome with everyone they meet. #ProudFans

Please let us know if any of the recent pics are yours. Some are being posted online without a link back to the owner. Thanks for sharing the Henry Cavill love everyone!

Twitter Pics From The 'Batman vs. Superman' Set? Don't Count On It

Henry gets ready to film a scene for Man of Steel (Blu-ray extras)

We can't say we're not jealous. In the last 24 hours, the stars of  The Avengers sequel have been creating buzz for the start of filming by tweeting pics from the set. So of course our first thought was, what if..

K-Lor is... RIGHT. At least not when it comes to Batman vs. Superman cinematographer Larry Fong. How do we know? well, because we asked him.

Didn't we tell you he was funny?.. but it does sound like that's a wise decision. Turns out Mark Ruffalo got in trouble for the photos he shared on twitter. Guess he doesn't have that Robert Downey Jr. clout.

You probably also saw the headlines, about Disney considering moving Captain America 3 so it wouldn't compete with Batman vs. Superman come May 6, 2016. The Hollywood Reporter has an update.

With the sequel on course to eclipse the $668 million earned worldwide by Superman pic "Man of Steel," sources reiterate Disney has no intention of moving the next "Captain America" in order to avoid a direct showdown with "Batman-Superman."

So the public "battle of the studios" continues, despite the fact that we all know SOMEONE. IS. MOVING.

Back to the set pics, despite what Larry Fong told us we're still hoping Warner Bros. incorporates some social media fun into the promo for the Man of Steel sequel. We did already get a teaser pic. You never know what could come next. Updates from Detroit as we get them!

The Good Lookin' Strikes Again: New Photos From Chicago, MI Casting Call Update

UPDATE 4/26: HQ pics via Tammy's husband (oscsan on IG)

Just stunning. Here we thought we had seen the best pictures of Henry sporting his new Man of Steel look over the weekend. Obviously, we were wrong. Tammy met him and Gina Carano in Chicago yesterday. Wow-wee.

Oh, and we see THOSE sunglasses are back. You know how we feel about them. It's like he's cheating on the Aviators. Traitor ;)

Tammy ran into Henry and Gina in Downtown Chicago. Here's her account via:

I said, “Excuse me, guys?” That’s when Henry turned around and said, “Yes?” As Gina turned around I asked, “Henry? Gina?” and they exclaimed, “Yes!” with a smile. I had to take a brief moment to compose myself before I told them that I was a huge fan of both of them. They thanked me and said that was really nice. I told Gina I saw her movie In The Blood last week and that she was wonderful in it. She smiled and thanked me. I apologized for bothering them and asked if I could have my pictures taken with them and Henry said, “Yes! Of course we would love to!” and Gina said, “Absolutely.”

I got the camera ready on my phone and gave it to Henry before I hugged Gina. She hugged me back while Henry snapped the photo. After the photo was taken, I gave Gina another big hug before Henry handed my phone to her. I stood next to Henry and squeezed him a little while Gina took the photo. I told them both that I loved them very much and I think they’re wonderful. Gina said I was very sweet and Henry thanked me. I asked why they were in Chicago. Henry said, “We’re here just for enjoyment.” I told him I know he is filming the Man of Steel sequel in Michigan and he said, “Yes, we are filming it right now up in Detroit.” I turned to Gina and asked her if this was her first time in Chicago. She said it was not and that she has been here before a couple of times. She then asked, “What about you?” So I told them I was born and raised here. Henry then said, “Well it’s a lovely, lovely city.” I told them that I was glad and they are hanging out in one of the best areas.

I didn’t want to take up any more of their time (I’m totally lying I would have loved to talk to them all day but I did interrupt their vacation after all) so I wrapped up the conversation by thanking them again and that’s when Henry put out his hand, cocked his head, bent over a little, grinned and said, “Well it was a pleasure meeting you.” I shook his hand, then Gina’s as she said, “It is a pleasure meeting you.” And I said the same and told them that I hope they enjoy the rest of their stay here. They thanked me and we said our goodbyes.

It was a short encounter but very sweet. Although I interrupted their afternoon stroll they were not in the least bit annoyed. They were warm, welcoming and very relaxed while talking to me. They are two beautiful people inside and out and I am truly honored to have met them. It was AMAZING!

(P.S. They looked like they were having a great time. Very comfortable, stress fee and HAPPY. God bless them).

Thanks for sharing your cool story Tammy. And you know you're hot when you're mentioned on Page Six. Go SUPER couple!

The implausibly ripped pair (who together share a 16-pack) have been spotted spending time together in Chicago, where Superman sequel “Batman vs. Superman” will film later this year.

Over the weekend, they enjoyed drinks at the Vertigo Sky Lounge, atop the 26th floor of the Dana Hotel & Spa, where they took a break from their get-together to pose for pictures with fans.

Again, you can see those pics and read the fan stories in our Chicago wrap. The New York Post also mentions that Henry and Gina ate at SushiSamba where these pics are from. Thanks to Chef Brandon Wilson for sharing them on IG (inommmz). He wrote: "Met Superman yesterday, no biggie." He added that it was the #BestEasterEver.

This is his boss, Master Sushi Chef Shigeru Kitano about to take flight. Love it!

We feel this is the perfect time to remind you Detroit, that you have a chance to work with the hotness that is Henry Cavill. Make it happen. The Detroit Free Press talked to the casting coordinator for Batman vs. Superman, and Warner Bros. has lots of jobs available:

“I have plenty of paid extra positions through the summer and into fall of 2014.”

Here's EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW before heading to Troy on Sunday. Good luck everyone, we want updates!

Jared Harris Reveals His Link To Napoleon Solo In 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.'

Batman vs. Superman has us so anxious about the start of filming, that for the last few weeks we've kind of forgotten about Solo and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. *the horror.* Lucky for us, Latino Review is not living in the Man of Steel 2 bubble of uncertainty like we are, and they had the presence of mind to ask Henry's costar Jared Harris about who he plays in U.N.C.L.E. -- His response was pretty revealing.

Jared and Henry share a laugh on the London set of U.N.C.L.E.

I play a CIA agent who is initially involved in training and running Napoleon Solo. So it’s running him as a spy as you would like. It’s set in the 60s and it’s a Guy Ritchie film. It has a great mixture of action and comedy. And there’s fantastic plotting.

Action?? COMEDY??? perfect profile aaaand hot suits???!!

We're right back to counting down to the film's release. Less than nine months to go now! - If you're just joining in the Solo love, catch up now 1/2.
