'The Witcher' Stars React To Henry's Departure After S3

When Henry announced he was leaving The Witcher after Season 3, several of his costars commented on his Instagram post and wished him well. Now we're hearing from a couple of other stars from The Witcher world. Read below.

The Witcher executive producer also weighed in, on what Henry's departure means for the series. Read what she had to say...

We're just happy to have Henry playing an incredible Geralt for one more season. Look for updates on everything The Witcher as we get them.

UPDATE: More from Joey and Michelle.

  1. Very class act of you to promote the Witcher spin off but sorry I'm not watching and I hope it tanks. How can I support a show runner who used the name of the ip to draw fans and get profited when she disrespects the fan base, the source material and the one actor who cares about all these? No offense to the new actor, it's not his fault but comments from the showrunner that he will bring something fresh are disgusting. She didn't give us young ciri in brokilon in s1 bc it would be confusing for the audience to have two actors for ciri (her words) like we haven't seen flashbacks in other series but suddenly to change an actor mid series is fresh. And an actor who fought for book accuracy and better scripts. But she prefers her voleth meir sl and yen's betrayal than to respect the fans. So sad and bitter the Witcher fell into her hands. Netflix had an easy success but her arrogance destroyed all. She thinks her scripts are better than the original material bc sure voleth meir being behind the elves nilfgaardian allience is great writing instead of the years of political intrigues, racism and Yarpen's poignant speech why he doesn't join the free elves and dwarves and how nilfgaard uses them 🥴. Or a betrayal between what was supposed to be a mother and daughter is so much better written that the fantastic last chapter of Boe smh. Now she'll carry the monoliths 'critical acclaimed' 🤣 sl to BO because people were thrilled and we'll get the rats spin off e eryone are excited about a group of misunderstood Robin hoods 😅. And her reasoning for all that? The books were too character driven and boring! I only imagine what she'll do with ciri's sl later or yen or the Hansa bc if Boe is to character driven then wait till she reads bof. Not that she cares. Now that Henry is out and everyone else who loved the books she'll come up with some new brilliant sl, geralt and milva will become an item, ciri will feel closer to the rats than geralt and yen. I ll wait for the next reboot and hopefully Henry will get another chance soon bc he was born for this part, he's still young and has years ahead to reprise his beloved character with a fantastic script that will honor sapkowskis work and nuance character. 🤞

    1. Amen to that 👋

    2. A silver lining in all this mess is that the majority of people supporte him. More that 80-90% of the fans everywhere I look stand with him which shows that people respect those who respect them and award the honesty and authedticity. As much as it pain me that we'll lose as Geralt, bc it was a casting for the ages and I'm not ready to give up on that, his work will not be forgotten. Furthermore, I think his star just begins to shine. With directors like Matthew Vaughn, Chris Mcquire, Guy Richie praise his work and looking forward to work with him, his future looks bright. All the best to mister Cavill.
      P. S. I hope he'll give us a S3 Geralt as he wants from the books and not Lauren's script, his best performance and end it with a bang❤️❤️❤️

    3. We all love henry cavill thats the point but the departure from Witcher means there must be something going on behind the scenes but we still support witcher series for the sake of Henry cavill because henry was also the biggest part of it...so plzz

    4. But he was forced to leave bc of the arrogance of Lauren and her departure from the source material. It was his dream role and he left bc people bts were mocking the source material. I'll watch s3 for Henry's sake and that's it.

  3. Did you read what some writers and producers said? "It's OK he left, batman was played by many actors." Not even an acknowledge that his passion made the series so popular. But when s4 fails they'll know. The arrogance of these people is disgusting. They never cared for a good story, only their own hate fiction. Sorry, I love this site, I'm just mad at the treatment for Henry. Not a thank you, nothing.

  4. I don't want the show to tank, because there are a lot of people working really hard on it, who are not the ones ruining it. And poor Liam Hemsworth, walking into such a mess. I'll keep watching to support Joey Batey, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan, and Liam when he joins.

However, I don't want Lauren Hissrich or any of these other writers to ever have a job again, unless it's in the fast food industry. I dislike it when fans accuse adaptations of being "fanfiction" but everything I hear about this situation gets worse and worse. I've little hope that Season 4 onward will follow the books from Baptism of Fire onward.

I'm not that interested in the announced spin-offs, either, as I assume that's where Lauren is putting all her ideas she wasn't able to shoehorn into the main series. Blood Origin seems to retcon the established lore (shocking, I know), and frankly I don't like the Rats and have no interest in seeing their characters diluted to make them more palatable. I might watch a spin-off about other witchers, because you only really meet Geralt in the books, except for the short stop at Kaer Morhen.

I was devastated when Henry left because that's the death knell of the show, but as more and more info slips out - my gods that must have been a toxic environment to work in! Imagine trying so hard to make something faithful and good and getting stepped on daily. Lauren even seems to publicly mock his efforts in some interviews. I am so glad that the majority of fans are coming down on Henry's side, because he gave so much of himself and the showrunners really wasted that.

Furthermore, the attitudes of the producers and writers since Henry's departure have been so disrespectful both to him and the fans. Not even a thank you, as someone mentioned above. Just lots of gushing and joy over a 'new era.' I don't understand it, it feels tone-deaf to the present moment. Ultimately, despite the loss, I'm very glad that Henry did what's right for him and moved on, and I hope he feels a load off his shoulders, especially with the holidays coming up!

    1. Agreed, even netflix went after Henry, a very low blow, hence our netflix subscriptions runs out on the 7th december, We were only keeping it for Enola and witcher.

    2. How did Netflix go after Henry? I hadn't seen that, although it doesn't really surprise me.

We'll be keeping our subscription, but only because there are multiple people in the house. I wonder if Netflix will take any kind of significant loss in subscribers because of this drama - it's definitely a black eye for them, whether they admit it or not.

  5. Lauren about Chris Fulton recast: " Chris was amazing and it's sad the dates we needed him couldn't work out with his new movie". About Henry: "the recasr brings new energy and we want fans to come for s3 so we can continue" 🤮

  6. Completely disrespect for Henry from the show runner and producers and this will backfire on them badly.

  7. Now Lauren wants people to watch s3 so she can continue what she does. That means that Netflix renew the series before the next series comes out like they did so far do if s3 does good, s5 is guaranteed. This is why she doesn't give a rats ass. I'm not sure I'll watch s3, at least not in the first month that matters for Netflix. The show without Henry deserves to be canceled. S2 was atrocious and it would be worst if he didn't fight for his geralt. He is the only one who deserves my respect.

  8. what bothers me about everything is that it was a cold announcement and that's it. Not a thank you for his hard work and dedication, not an acknowledge about his constribution to the show bc lets face it, not only he was the best geralt they could ever cast but his knowledge for the games and the books and his star power brought fans to the show. We'll see how this will go when he'll leave. These people are so arrogant, they can't even accept that 60% or more of the success was him. And the rest the music, directors, other cast members, cinematographers etc and last and the least the writers. Good luck now! Ungreatfulness bites.

    1. Exactly. Adaptations are almost never true to the source material, but I can bring myself to overlook that (within reason). What has me so annoyed is Netflix-showrunners-writers disdain for Henry's time and effort, and much of the fan base by proxy.
And - if we, with our limited information, can sense that disdain - how much more went on behind the scenes that we'll never know about? Even though the loss of Geralt breaks my heart, no one wants to work in a toxic environment and good on Henry for seeking other opportunities.

    2. Exactly that!!! I didn't want a 1:1adaptation, i have the books for that. I wanted a series that honored sapko's work, themes, messages, philosophy, world building, characters and relationships. Lauren's work was the opposite of that. With s2 it was very clear that the writers didn't understood or loved the books. Plus the writing wasn't good. And she always found excuses when people called her out. "the books are too character driven and people would be bored" (like she knows how people would feel, or like watching a well written family bonding would be boring!) And of course her disdain for Henry became obvious when it was clear that he knew more than her and fans preferred his ideas. Like in the roach death scene. That must hurt Lauren's ego. And one last thing: the pr the writers try to do these last days (after a month of silence where they hoped fans would move on but it didn't happen) have the opposite effect. They swear they love the books but we all saw s2. Their words means nothing. And not a kind word about Henry. That says everything. If their writing was good, if their love for the books was real they wouldn't have to be on Twitter saying it, their writing would speak for them. And a nice word for Henry, a "thank you for everything, you were fantastic, we'll miss you but we hope the new actor can continue to honor the role you defined" perhaps wouldn't turned fans against them. But their arrogance doesn't allow them to give him the credit he deserves. For them he was an obstacle bc he pressured them to honor the books and now they can finally go to directions that has nothing to do with sapko's world. Not in tone, philosophy or story. In the end the one who will win from this is Henry, as much as it breaks my heart he will not be our geralt anymore. Time is the best judge.

    3. I agree. The only person I've seen even mention Henry was Joey Batey saying how much he'd miss him.
Also Lauren is now blaming the ex-writer Beau DeMayo for killing Eskel, a decision she took credit for back in S2. That just seems off to me... kind of a strange way to deflect criticism.

  9. Henry was there praised everyone's work day and night and he got silence in return. Maybe the cast can't say anything bc they still work for LHS and she obviously doesn't want to acknowledge his importance but perhaps in a few years when there would be no contracts we'll know. Also maybe they are afraid for their work if the so get cancelled so they prefer to hype Liam. But tbh this behavior leaves a bad taste in my mind. And he still has one season. So who knows. Maybe he'll get a proper goodbye, not from the arrogant writers and showrunner but maybe from the cast and crew.

  10. Can Henry become a producer already? His knowledge, understanding, passion, dedication and respect to others work is phenomenal, he deserves to be in the making progress. Imagine the Witcher we would get if he had a saying in the scripts!!! Love him and wish him all the success in the future 💜❤️😘
And also on a petty move from me, I hope soon when the Witcher universe on netflix fails, everyone from the production team to the cast to realize his value!

  11. The production team from Netflix's the Witcher, the show runner Lauren didn't bother to invite Doug Cockle, the voice actor of the Witcher game, in the Witcher premiere. Henry did personally. This is how much these people respect the books and the games! Henry is a true gem.

  12. At least we've got one more season with Henry, which I am determined to enjoy anytime he's onscreen. I'm excited to watch S3 but I consider it the final season. Whether I watch S4... I'll be honest, I'm invested enough that I'll watch until the show's end, but the excitement will not be there after Henry is gone. And I'm not interested in the spin-offs at all. They look pretty generic, nothing witcher-y about them. What hooked me in S1 was the different tone and feel to the show compared to other fantasy series. And that Geralt legit freaked me out in S1E1; that was my intro to the witcher world lol.

  13. I hope all the people who hate the change and the direction the show is heading and sign petitions to fire the writers, to unsubscribe from Netflix bc that's all that matters to them, money, and not the quality of their products or the fans. LHS in an interview this September said Netflix gives her a free pass to do what she wants with the ip. Only if they lost subscribers bc of her choices they'll pay it.

  14. I have a feeling the cast and crew minus Lauren, no matter what they say now for pr, they will soon miss Henry very very much, especially when they see what s4 will turned into.

    1. When reality checks in they'll realize what they had and what they lost. The heart and the soul of the Witcher. Not only bc he was and will be the best geralt but bc he understood this world in a way the writers and showrunner don't, he is connected with this world as a fan and he pushed them to do better and if they'd listened to his suggestions they'd have a fan favorite series instead of this.

  15. Where can i start... firstly i'd like to say thank you Henry Cavill for being such an amazing, fantastic actor, you have bought so much joy to myself and my family, we are such huge fans of Henry in his roles of Superman, Geralt in the Witcher, he is such a tremendous, and superb actor, I have never seen someone play the role of superman like Henry has, he is just simply the BEST EVER I mean the BEST. When reality checks in they'll (DC Studios) realize what they had and what they lost. I and my family THANK YOU Henry Cavill from hearts, we love you and we will miss you. ❤️ but i have faith that you will return to us fans as something much bigger and better. We wish you all the success in the future Henry. Love always and all the way from Australia. xxx
