The Witcher: Meet Young Geralt, Who Is Also A Big Supes Fan!

"@toptalentagency: So excited to reveal our #ttakids Tristan Ruggeri will be playing a young version of Henry Cavill in the new “The Witcher” #netflix series. He will play a young Geralt of Rivia."

As we wait for official word on when The Witcher will premiere on Netflix, a new casting announcement has us very excited.

Tristan Ruggeri is playing young Geralt in the fantasy series, which likely means we're getting at least a glimpse at The Witcher's backstory (1/2).

During a roundtable at Comic-Con, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich mentioned that digging into the rich past of the main characters was one of her favorite parts of creating the show.

Now it sounds like Tristan is part of that vision and this summer he even got a signed cap sent by Supes/The Witcher himself!

Tristan's mom, Edith, allowed us to share her son's happy moment. She added that you can follow his official Instagram: tristan.ruggeri.

We can't wait to see Tristan portray young Geralt in the show later this year!

The Witcher: Meet The Actresses Playing Ciri & Yennefer

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the rest of the cast for The Witcher, including the two young women who will play princess Ciri and Yennefer the sorceress. The two will have a close relationship with Henry's Geralt of Rivia.

The Witcher cast is finally here.  ITS FINALLY HAPPENING (via Netflix)

1: Henry Cavill is Geralt of Rivia... you probably already knew that though.
2: The enigmatic sorceress Yennefer will be played by Anya Chalotra.
3: Then there's Ciri. 17 year old Oxfordshire-native Freya Allan will play the pivotal Princess of Cintra!
4: From the court at Cintra: Queen Calanthe is Jodhi May.
5: Fledgling sorceress Fringilla is played by Mimi Ndiweni.
6: Sabrina is Therica Wilson-Read.
7: Millie Brady joins as the outcast Princess Renfri.
8: The druid Mousesack is played by Adam Levy
9: And Queen Calanthe's husband, the knight Eist, will be played by Bjรถrn Hlynur Haraldsson.
10: Tissaia, head of the magical academy, is MyAnna Buring.

The Hollywood Reporter also has a new interview with showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich.

Here are the questions relating to Henry:

The Witcher series, while centered on Geralt, features many strong female characters. Will the show feature Ciri and Yennefer in prominent roles alongside Geralt?

Yeah, what’s interesting is the first couple books are told from Geralt’s perspective and when I was reading them I saw that there are all these other characters who are very strong and powerful; not just the women, by the way. They can be pulled to the forefront so it doesn’t always feel like just Geralt’s journey, because the journey of one man is never going to be very interesting. It’s only going to be as interesting as the people he interacts with. That’s why these characters are rising in prominence in the series.

Did you intentionally cast lesser-known actors opposite Cavill, who is an established name?

Not specifically, nor were we looking for a movie star when we cast Henry. We’re looking for the best actors for these roles. Period. End of story. It comes down to the best actor for the role. Henry’s obviously a big fan of the franchise. We met in early April and had a very general meeting. I then went off and met with hundreds of other candidates for Geralt and never really got Henry out of my mind. In casting Anya and Freya, the cool thing was we were open to anyone and both of them, to me, embody the spirits of the characters.

Filming is expected to start very soon, so keep checking back for the latest production updates.

Dominic Cooper Replaces Henry In 'Stratton'

GFM Films announced today that Dominic Cooper will take over Henry's role in Stratton, after creative differences led to him leaving the project in May:

Gemma Chan, Austin Stowell, Tyler Hoechlin and Tom Felton also star in the film, which starts shooting next week in Italy before moving to Rome and London.

Simon West is still on board to direct.

Back when Henry left the film, author Duncan Falconer spoke about his integrity and what a pleasure it had been working with him. We know this was a project close to Henry's heart, but also know there are better things to come. We'll be here cheering for him the entire time!

The Good Lookin' Strikes Again: New Photos From Chicago, MI Casting Call Update

UPDATE 4/26: HQ pics via Tammy's husband (oscsan on IG)

Just stunning. Here we thought we had seen the best pictures of Henry sporting his new Man of Steel look over the weekend. Obviously, we were wrong. Tammy met him and Gina Carano in Chicago yesterday. Wow-wee.

Oh, and we see THOSE sunglasses are back. You know how we feel about them. It's like he's cheating on the Aviators. Traitor ;)

Tammy ran into Henry and Gina in Downtown Chicago. Here's her account via:

I said, “Excuse me, guys?” That’s when Henry turned around and said, “Yes?” As Gina turned around I asked, “Henry? Gina?” and they exclaimed, “Yes!” with a smile. I had to take a brief moment to compose myself before I told them that I was a huge fan of both of them. They thanked me and said that was really nice. I told Gina I saw her movie In The Blood last week and that she was wonderful in it. She smiled and thanked me. I apologized for bothering them and asked if I could have my pictures taken with them and Henry said, “Yes! Of course we would love to!” and Gina said, “Absolutely.”

I got the camera ready on my phone and gave it to Henry before I hugged Gina. She hugged me back while Henry snapped the photo. After the photo was taken, I gave Gina another big hug before Henry handed my phone to her. I stood next to Henry and squeezed him a little while Gina took the photo. I told them both that I loved them very much and I think they’re wonderful. Gina said I was very sweet and Henry thanked me. I asked why they were in Chicago. Henry said, “We’re here just for enjoyment.” I told him I know he is filming the Man of Steel sequel in Michigan and he said, “Yes, we are filming it right now up in Detroit.” I turned to Gina and asked her if this was her first time in Chicago. She said it was not and that she has been here before a couple of times. She then asked, “What about you?” So I told them I was born and raised here. Henry then said, “Well it’s a lovely, lovely city.” I told them that I was glad and they are hanging out in one of the best areas.

I didn’t want to take up any more of their time (I’m totally lying I would have loved to talk to them all day but I did interrupt their vacation after all) so I wrapped up the conversation by thanking them again and that’s when Henry put out his hand, cocked his head, bent over a little, grinned and said, “Well it was a pleasure meeting you.” I shook his hand, then Gina’s as she said, “It is a pleasure meeting you.” And I said the same and told them that I hope they enjoy the rest of their stay here. They thanked me and we said our goodbyes.

It was a short encounter but very sweet. Although I interrupted their afternoon stroll they were not in the least bit annoyed. They were warm, welcoming and very relaxed while talking to me. They are two beautiful people inside and out and I am truly honored to have met them. It was AMAZING!

(P.S. They looked like they were having a great time. Very comfortable, stress fee and HAPPY. God bless them).

Thanks for sharing your cool story Tammy. And you know you're hot when you're mentioned on Page Six. Go SUPER couple!

The implausibly ripped pair (who together share a 16-pack) have been spotted spending time together in Chicago, where Superman sequel “Batman vs. Superman” will film later this year.

Over the weekend, they enjoyed drinks at the Vertigo Sky Lounge, atop the 26th floor of the Dana Hotel & Spa, where they took a break from their get-together to pose for pictures with fans.

Again, you can see those pics and read the fan stories in our Chicago wrap. The New York Post also mentions that Henry and Gina ate at SushiSamba where these pics are from. Thanks to Chef Brandon Wilson for sharing them on IG (inommmz). He wrote: "Met Superman yesterday, no biggie." He added that it was the #BestEasterEver.

This is his boss, Master Sushi Chef Shigeru Kitano about to take flight. Love it!

We feel this is the perfect time to remind you Detroit, that you have a chance to work with the hotness that is Henry Cavill. Make it happen. The Detroit Free Press talked to the casting coordinator for Batman vs. Superman, and Warner Bros. has lots of jobs available:

“I have plenty of paid extra positions through the summer and into fall of 2014.”

Here's EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW before heading to Troy on Sunday. Good luck everyone, we want updates!

Three More Actors Join Henry In 'Batman vs. Superman'

BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Oscar®-winning actress Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey of “300: Rise of an Empire,” and Tao Okamoto of “The Wolverine” have joined the cast of the upcoming Zack Snyder untitled Superman/Batman film. The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

All three actors will play characters newly created for the film.

Snyder stated, “Holly has always been one of my favorite actresses; she has immense talent and is always captivating on screen. I had an opportunity to meet her a while back and knew instantly that I had to work with her, so as we began writing the script I made sure to create a role specifically for her.

“I just had the good fortune to work with Callan on ‘300: Rise of an Empire’ and was very impressed with his incredible talent,” the director continued. “He’s a fantastic actor and I’m looking forward to having the chance to work with him again. And, quite simply, Tao is a striking presence whose beauty is aptly rivaled by her amazing abilities as an actress. I’m really excited to have her joining us on this adventure.”

Hunter received the Academy Award® and a Golden Globe Award for her starring role in Jane Campion’s “The Piano.” She also garnered Oscar® nominations for her work in “Broadcast News,” “The Firm” and “Thirteen.” She has starred in such films as the Coen brothers’ “Raising Arizona” and “O Brother, Where Art Thou?,” Steven Spielberg’s “Always,” Lasse Halstrรถm’s “Once Around,” Jodie Foster’s “Home for the Holidays” and Brad Bird’s animated hit “The Incredibles.” Hunter was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award® when she reunited with Campion for the TV miniseries “Top of the Lake.” She next appears in David Gordon Green’s “Manglehorn” and in Terrence Malick’s upcoming feature.

Australian-born Mulvey stars in the current box office hit “300: Rise of an Empire,” produced by Snyder. He also appeared in Kathryn Bigelow’s “Zero Dark Thirty,” and will next be seen in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

In addition to “The Wolverine,” Okamoto also appeared in the video “The Wolverine: The Path of a Ronin,” and in the Japanese television miniseries “Chi no wadachi.”

Snyder’s film stars Henry Cavill, reprising his role as Superman/Clark Kent, Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince. The film also stars Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and reunites “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

The new film is currently being written by Chris Terrio, from a screenplay by David S. Goyer. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Wesley Coller, David S. Goyer and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

The film is set to open worldwide on May 6, 2016, and is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, Batman characters created by Bob Kane, and Wonder Woman created by William Moulton Marston, appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment.

We Have A Lex For Our Supes: What We Learned From The Twitter Reaction

It certainly came out of left field..

Meet your new Lex Luthor! Warner Brothers announced today that Jesse Eisenberg has been cast as the villain in the YET TO BE NAMED (yes, we're using all caps psst.. Warner) Man of Steel sequel. Jeremy Irons will play Alfred. As you can expect, reaction to Eisenberg's casting in the iconic role was mixed.

gifs via

After the dust settled, we decided to point out fun facts we learned on twitter today. Some of the criticism directed at Jesse (we're on a first name basis now) was that he looks too young to play Lex opposite Henry as Superman. But as many of you pointed out, they are the same age (30).

And yes..

LEX LUTHOR IS A HIPSTER.

But that may be exactly what director Zack Snyder is looking for. This is him describing his casting choice in the press release:

Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”

Unexpected directions?.. we like!, after all that's where Zack took Man of Steel and look where we are now. Entertainment Weekly makes a great case for Jesse as Luthor, so give them a read

One thing we found pretty interesting, is that Henry's publicist is very much in the business of representing DC superheroes and their counterparts.

Publicist to the stars Jennifer Allen now reps the Old Batman (Bale), the new Superman (Cavill) and the new Luthor (Eisenberg). BRAVO!

Go Jen! (as we ponder if we made the wrong choice by going into news writing instead of publicity).

So far 2014 has been a roller coaster ride for fans, but we have to say we are enjoying every second of it. And then there's this.

Best thing that ever happened to and the universe was this delay.

There's always a silver lining. Keep up with everything Man of Steel 2 in this handy link we've put together for you. Stay tuned for the latest out of Detroit, where Henry is now preparing to become the Man of Steel once again.. beard included we hope ;)

Superman Is Not The Only One Training For The Sequel

What did we tell you. Trinity in the making. Gal Gadot recently spoke out for the first time about her new role as Wonder Woman. Batman-News.com posted the translation of the new interview, where Gadot talks about training for the role:

It’s the physical preparations that I’m starting now. A very serious training regimen – Kung Fu, kickboxing, swords, jujutsu, Brazilian…1,000 and 1 things…I’ll gain body mass.

You better watch out Superman, or she may just kick your butt.. #girlpower. Since Gadot is now in training (just like Henry & Ben), it makes us wonder how big of a role Wonder Woman will have in Man of Steel 2. Cameo, Schmameo..

Gadot also shared how she found out she had been cast & more. Watch the video and read the rest at Batman-News.com. We're now just weeks away from the beginning of filming on Man of Steel 2. Look for the very latest as it comes in.

Amy Adams: "Lois Is About Her Empathy For Clark"

Prepare yourself Gal Gadot. While talking to MTV, Amy Adams warned the new Wonder Woman that director Zack Snyder is going to put her through the wringer and mentions why she was exempt, while filming Man of Steel:

"Lois is not about proportions, Lois is about her intellect and her savvy reporting skills and her empathy for Clark, and so I just didn't think about it."

Sure Amy, rub it in.. although we figure Gal's experience as a sports trainer in the Israeli defense forces should come in handy. Can't wait to see them sharing the big screen.

Henry Could Be Going Up Against Joaquin Phoenix In Sequel + New Writer Recruited

Variety claims Warner Bros. may be courting Joaquin Phoenix for the role of a villain in the Man of Steel sequel. And not just any villain:

Though sources couldn’t confirm what the role is, it’s believed to be for the main antagonist, which is likely to be Lex Luthor. Names like Jason Momoa and Callan Mulvey have been linked to the film but even if those actors are cast, sources are saying that they wouldn’t play the main villain, and that Warners has always wanted someone who would be a slam dunk in the role.

When we heard the news of this possible match-up, we couldn't help but smile being longtime fans of Joaquin. He has more than proved he can be a nasty villain, including with his Oscar nominated performance as Commodus in Gladiator. But it's his range as an actor that really gets us excited. With roles like Johnny Cash in Walk the Line and his latest performance as a loner in Spike Jonze's Her, he can definitely bring the emotions that could make Lex more than just a comic book villain in Man of Steel 2. Fingers crossed.

The Hollywood Reporter shared its own exclusive about where the script stands now for the Man of Steel sequel. Warner Bros. has reportedly brought in Chris Terrio to help finish it up:

David Goyer wrote the screenplay, which is based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster (Superman) and Bob Kane (Batman). But sources say Terrio has been brought in to get the script in shape before filming begins. Goyer has been tied up with a number of other DC Comics titles including Sandman.

More on Terrio's background at THR.  Updates as they come in!

Is Henry Cavill Getting His Wish Of A Doomsday Matchup? - Latest on The 'Man of Steel' Sequel

Could Momoa be Doomsday or Martian Manhunter? / image via SuperHeroUnion

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Jason Momoa is in negotiations to join the cast of Man of Steel 2. While they don't know who he'll be playing, they speculate it could be one of two potential villains in the sequel:

There's been speculation that the movie's villain could be Doomsday, a Kryptonian scientifically engineered into an intergalactic killing machine. Doomsday famously “killed” Superman in the comics, which became a media event in 1992. The character's existence is even hinted in the extras of the Man of Steel Blu-ray.

However, a source speculated that if Warners is populating the movie with members of the Justice League, Momoa could also play the Martian Manhunter, a super-powered alien trapped on Earth. Momoa, with his muscular physique, could be a fit for either character.

Henry talked about Doomsday being his favorite villain in a new interview he did in London, ahead of the Man of Steel home video release.

He also mentioned the villain during an interview over the summer while promoting the film.

The Hollywood Reporter threw out a few other names of characters Momoa could be playing in Man of Steel 2 and they're not all villains. Check it out.

In this just released clip from Henry's latest interview, he mentions he hopes he gets to work with Diane Lane and Kevin Costner again.

It looks like he won't have to wait too long for that reunion, at least with Diane. Here are the latest pictures from construction going on in Yorkville, IL where filming is supposed to happen sometime before the end of February. It's the Kent farm location used in Man of Steel.  The Daily Mail has more details on what's been going on there this week.

A definite must read as we look ahead to filming, is Ben Affleck's candid interview with Playboy magazine.
He mentions what convinced him to play Batman in the much buzzed about Man of Steel sequel and a lot more:

'It was a unique take on Batman that was still consistent with the mythology. It made me excited. All of a sudden I had a reading of the character. When people see it, it will make more sense than it does now or even than it did to me initially.'

'I don’t want to give away too much, but the idea for the new Batman is to redefine him in a way that doesn’t compete with the Bale and Chris Nolan Batman but still exists within the Batman canon.

It will be an older and wiser version, particularly as he relates to Henry Cavill’s Superman character.'

We are ready for filming to begin now! -- stay tuned for the latest as production gets ready to go on Man of Steel 2.

Henry Cavill Has A New Costar: Meet The New 'Wonder Woman'

I'm overwhelmed from all the love and positive feedback... I have the best fans in the world - THANK YOU!!!

Variety was first to report today that Gal Gadot has been cast as Wonder Woman in the Man of Steel sequel. The news was followed by director Zack Snyder's first comments on her casting:

“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

And that's not all, there's also word the film is about to cast a villain and that The Flash may also appear in the Man of Steel sequel. Read the rest at Variety.

As for what Wonder Woman will be doing in Man of Steel 2, The Hollywood Reporter has a few ideas. They highlight the fact that in the current DC world, she's Superman's girlfriend:

With this comic book focus on Wonder Woman's love life -- and the related emphasis on her as someone to fight over, as opposed to fight beside -- it's no wonder that some comic book fans are nervous about the idea of Wonder Woman being added to a movie that's so far been described as "Batman vs. Superman." That movie's going to be pretty busy just with those two alpha male egos clashing. Will there be any space for Wonder Woman to show up and show off what she can do -- or will she end up being reduced to the role of love interest for one (or both) of the more familiar male heroes?

THR has much more to share. We think Gadot is a great addition to the cast and while we hope she kicks some serious butt, we wouldn't mind seeing her flirt with Superman. What are your thoughts on this latest casting news? - surely more announcements to come as filming gets closer!
