Congratulations to everyone involved in the making of Sand Castle, it just wrapped in Jordan!
Director Fernando Coimbraposted this last shot from the set today, along with these parting words.. "Finito! Ultimo dia de filmagem terminado. Picture Wrap on SAND CASTLE!!! Amazing cast and crew, I can't tell how thankful I am!!"
We are very much looking forward to seeing him play the tough military guy on the big screen. Look for the latest news as Sand Castle goes into post-production.

First Sammy Sheik shares a smiling selfie with Henry, and now he gives us another inadvertent glimpse of Captain Syverson while he was in Jordan.
Sammy captured the moment, while posing with the woman behind the bloody exteriors, makeup artist Jemma Harwood. Just a few days ago Henry shared his close-up of her work on his Instagram, along with another great shot from the set.
While Henry is back in London after finishing his work in Sand Castle, filming continues for the next few weeks. And we've been getting some cool pics from the sets, courtesy of his costars who are now back in "Baghdad." The film is expected to hit theaters next year.

Okay, Captain Syverson.. you're scaring us now.
Henry has posted a second pic from the Sand Castle set in less than 24 hours (along with a funny caption), but we have to admit we're never ready to see him bleed on screen. He's done it many times, and will do so in Batman v Superman too. But this time around the film is based on real events, bringing a grittiness to Henry's role that we can't wait to see when Sand Castle opens next year. Nice job keeping it method, Henry..
Today Captain Syverson himself, posted this pic from the Sand Castle set and he's looking fierce. We had gotten afewothershots of Henry as the special forces captain in the Iraq war drama, but this is the first set photo he posts online. The movie also starring Nicholas Hoult, is expected to be released sometime next year with filming set to wrap in the next few weeks.

We've only gotten a fewglimpses of Henry as he filmed Sand Castle in Jordan, but could he already be done? -- It certainly looks like it based on that update by Matt Sinnreich. Actor Neil Brown Jr. also posted a farewell kinda caption with his latest photo from the set.
While filming is reportedly continuing through the end of the year, it appears some of the cast is done with their work. Congratulations to those headed home, and if that includes/included Henry, we can't wait to see him back in London for the holidays. Sand Castle is expected to be released sometime next year.
Henry has been in Jordan for a few weeks now, and we have gotten a few glimpses of him -- but this is the first time he poses for a selfie.. and it's great to see that smiling face.
Production is set to wrap by January 2nd. We'll continue to bring you updates from Jordan as they come in.
Screenwriter Chris Roessner, today posted a gorgeous shot from the Sand Castle set in Jordan (you can see some of the actors in the background). Earlier this week we got a first look at Henry and his furry costar, after he arrived to film his scenes as Captain Syverson following his trip to China. The rest of the pics were shared by director Fernando Coimbra and Henry's costars (some of them are from tonight), and we even got a little video from one of the sets. Filming is set to wrap in about a month, we can't wait to see more of Henry in this film.

Hello, Captain Syverson!
After keeping us on pins and needles for close to a month, Henry has finally made an appearance on the Sand Castle set in Jordan (next to director Fernando Coimbra). And we couldn't have asked for a better shot -- Check out the camo shorts and that flashy gun!
@HenryCavillNews I bet that he loves working so closely with a dog.
Henry is apparently working with Aika, a German Shepherd who we're guessing plays one of the dogs used by the U.S. military to help them avoid improvised explosive devices or IEDs.

In the film Henry plays a Special Forces Captain stationed in Baqubah, where Nicholas Hoult's character (Matt Ocre) is sent with his unit to repair a broken water system.
Sand Castle is set during the U.S.-led occupation of Iraq in 2003, and is based on screenwriter Chris Roessner's experience as a machine gunner during that time.
We've been keeping up with the rest of the castsince filming began November 1st, and a few days ago Coimbra shared some new photos from the set.
Filming is set to wrap in early January, look for updates from Jordan as they come in.

P.S. We apparently missed that Henry is wearing a Punisher t-shirt and a fan let us have it on Instagram. Marvel fans can be so touchy.. :p
In any case The Punisher is known as an anti-hero, so does the shirt have any sort of meaning or is it just a badass style choice for Captain Syverson? (Time did a really good piece on the history of the character's logo and how it's been used in Iraq). We can't wait to learn more about Henry's role in Sand Castle!

Clearly Henry is not an "Eagle.." at least not yet. And like we mentioned before, Captain Syverson is stationed in Baqubah and is not part of Nicholas Hoult's unit. However with filming set to wrap in early January, the window for Henry to arrive is getting smaller!
This weekit was announced that actor Navid Negahban has joined Henry in the film. The next day he posted a pic already in Jordan..

"Sand Castle" is based on a true story and centers on Matt Ocre (Hoult), who is part of a mission to repair a broken water system in the dangerous and unstable Iraqi village of Baqubah. While the people of Baghdad welcome the Americans as saviors, the villagers resist their presence and Matt and his unit must try to convince the community that they are part of the solution, not the problem, in order to leave the town and get out alive. Negahban has been cast in the role of Kadeer, a local school teacher in the Iraqi village who is desperate to get his children fresh water and starts helping out Ocre as he navigates the increasingly unstable situation in the village.

It's only Tuesday, but this week has already brought us plenty of Sand Castle news out of Jordan. Producer Justin Nappi has shared a couple of updates from the set, including a picture of director Fernando Coimbra hard at work. We know Henry is still in London, thanks to a sighting at a private screening of 'Spectre' over the weekend. And just today a fan saw Henry and actor Andrew Scott, who plays C in the film..
Just queued up in Boots Piccadilly behind Andrew Scott and Henry Cavill. They didn't seem starstruck by me, like... At all.
As we wait for Henry to join the Sand Castle production in Jordan, his costars have been posting pictures from the set, and they look like a fun group!

That's some military strength right there!
Producer Justin Nappi giving us a preview of what we're in for, now that Sand Castle has begun filming in Jordan. We found out today that Henry is not on set yet. Hopefully when it's his time to head to Jordan, we'll hear about it now that he's on social media.
And you can't have a movie without extras, and lucky Qutaiba Abdelhaq got to play one as production got underway. He posted his pic in a U.S. army uniform on Instagram, saying "Yesterday I was Sergeant Cardoza!"
We also got a quick celebratory update from screenwriter Chris Roessner, who is about to tie the knot..

Director Fernando Coimbra shared the first pic from the set, and that was followed by a tweet from screenwriter Chris Roessner, whose life the film is based on.
Henry gave us a preview of his lookfor the film on Thursday, and the director confirms it was all part of rehearsals in Jordan ahead of filming: "News from the front. Sand Castle taking shape. Incredible week of tests with the actors."
The tricky part with this shoot, is that we don't really know how big or small Henry's role is in the movie. So while filming is set to wrap January 2, there is no way of knowing if Henry will stay in Jordan the whole time, or fly back and forth from London depending on when he's needed on set.
Hopefully now that he's on Instragram and Facebook, he'll keep us all in the loop. In between his posts we'll continue to bring you the very latest from Jordan, including updates from the rest of the cast and crew. This movie is looking like a real winner, and you know Henry is gonna rock his role!

We are soooo ready to bring you everything from Jordan, as production on Sand Castle gets ready to go on Monday. However we're also realizing that those updates may be hard to come by, not only because of the location but also the language barrier.
The good news is we've done a bit of research, to give you a better idea of what the film is about.
The other great thing is that Henry and several of his costars are either on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, so hopefully it won't be a complete media blackout.
On Thursday Henry (seemingly in Jordan)introduced us to Captain Syverson, who he'll be playing in the movie. His costars have also been sharing tweets and details, with Glen Powell posting a couple of cool updates just in the last 24 hours -- including a pic with Nicholas Hoult as they took on the tourist sites..

Henry was nowhere to be found, but we have a feeling that he might have been cheering for New Zealand, as that country's teamclaimed victory in the Rugby World Cup today. Congratulations to the All Blacks!
Back to Sand Castle, in the last couple of weeks the film added Glen Powell, who according to Deadline will play Sgt. Falvy, "a tough-minded, fitness-obsessed, foul-mouthed soldier from the South part of the unit."
Beau Knapp, also plays a sergeant in the unit that is tasked with repairing a broken water system in the dangerous and unstable Iraqi village of Baqubah.
Logan Marshall-Greenreplaces Luke Evans as the sergeant in charge of Matt Ocre’s (Nicholas Hoult) unit, and again Henry plays the special forces captain running the operation in Baqubah.
All we know about Neil Brown's character, is that his name is Enzo.
The story is based on the life of screenwriter Chris Roessner, who shared some key details about his work during an in-depth interview a few years ago.
Here are some of the highlights:
"In the script, the main character comes to realize that one of the reasons he joined the military, went through this war experience, was to, in a way, earn the love of a father he never met. That’s very much my story. I didn’t meet my dad until I was 27. My dad was a career military guy, was an Army Ranger, was a Special Forces guy, and was very much that guy. He’s a very tough person."
"I signed up July 11th, 2001. When I signed up, it was a very different military than the one I would end up serving in; there was no war on the horizon. After signing up and after September 11th, I would spend the next three years of my life away from my family and on the other side of the world, far away from anyone I had any history with whatsoever. It was a very scary time, but I got to spend some formative years just learning how to be a man. Learning how to see the world and figuring out what my place in it would be."
"All of the characters in the script are the guys that I served with. I had to construct a narrative, of course. So in order to give the story some thrust I tasked these guys with repairing an aqueduct. Really though, the impetus to write ‘Sand Castle’ was to honor the amazing things I saw my friends do, these 19 and 20 year old kids. To come home and not see their faces in magazines? And seeing billboards that…I just felt, when I came back from Iraq, that our country had gotten really bad at picking its heroes."
"So when I sat down to write this script, the only goal I had in mind was portraying those people in a way that was honest and interesting and would hopefully give them the credit they deserve, but would otherwise never get."
"I watched the movie “Platoon” in Saddam Hussein’s palace in Tikrit at 3:00 in the morning. I finished it just as the sun was coming up. And it very much changed my life, not just because the movie was fantastic and wonderful but it was so deeply personal. When Andy [Dahm] and I were talking about “Sand Castle” we talked about that movie constantly because it was so deeply personal. That was the only goal. Write a movie that is deeply personal, that’s indicative of your war and tell the story in as clear a way as possible. I think, without question, “Platoon” was something we came back to time and time again."
Roessner does talk about the plot, but some of the details are kind of spoilerish, so keep that in mind if you decide to read the rest. There is also a possibility the script could have gone through rewrites since the 2013 interview.
As filming begins next week, Voltage Pictures will be busy presenting Sand Castle to buyers at the American Film Market in Santa Monica, CA -- so hopefully we'll have news to report from there as well. In the meantime we want to once again wish Henry good luck in Jordan.
