Henry Announces Project, 'Nomis' Starts Filming This Month

Huge news today, as Henry announced he's headed to Canada (in the middle of winter) to shoot Nomis. He'll be joined by costars Sir Ben Kingsley and Alexandra Daddario.

We don't know much about the plot, other than it's being described as a psychological thriller by his excited manager.

David Raymond (head of Arise Pictures) will be directing, and we can't wait to bring you updates on this film as they develop.

UPDATE: Raymond spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about working with Henry, and the article gives new details on the plot and filming location:

David Raymond wrote and directed the film about an American police force who trap an online predator, only to realize the depth of his crimes goes far beyond anything they had anticipated.

Raymond will also produce the pic alongside Fortitudes’ Robert Ogden Barnum, Arise Pictures’ Chris Pettit and Buffalo Gals’ Jeff Beesley. Rick Dugdale will also produce, and Fortitudes’ Nadine De Barros will serve as executive producer.

Fortitude International will introduce the film to buyers at the EFM in Berlin. Production is set to begin at the end of February in Winnipeg, Canada.

“I’m overjoyed by our cast,” said Raymond in a statement. “Henry’s got such a strong presence onscreen, but he’s also incredibly smart and has a wicked sense of humor. I think people are going to be blown away by what he’s going to do with this role. Sir Ben is always incredible. I wrote the character for him, so I was quite relieved when he signed on. Alexandra is a raw talent and has an undeniable electricity, which is exactly why I wanted her in this role.”

Here are a few of the director's scouting pics, that really give you a feel for the film.

One of our readers found this article that hints at production possibly happening in the Okanagan area, but it's from more than a year ago so things could have (very possibly) changed:

Jon Summerland with the Okanagan Film Commission says they need to find an old, decrepit, decaying castle-type house.

“The idea has to feel like this house in the middle of nowhere is almost a prison. The people who are there have nowhere to go — you can’t see neighbours, can’t hear neighbours, you can’t see a road. You’ve got to feel like there’s nowhere you can go to get away from this almost a fortress, prison-type thing,” Summerland says.

Finding the perfect house has proven challenging, and Summerland is asking anyone with leads to get in touch with the film commission.

“The house is the driver and the difficult one. Once we nail down this house — unless it becomes something else maybe — I’m confident everything else will be easy,” Summerland says (..)

With the search for a vintage-looking house proving difficult, Dugdale says they are looking at creative solutions and ways of possibly adapting the story to a different type of building.

“We have some options for sure,” Dugdale says.

The cast for Nomis is coming together, with "recognizable names and people we may have worked with in the past," Dugdale says. He’s not saying much about the movie itself, which he describes as dark and suspenseful — something in the vein of Gone Girl meets Seven.

“The reason we can’t give away too much is it’s so full of twists and turns, we have to be careful not to give it away too soon.”

More from the Vernon Morning Star (dated October 2016):

The North Okanagan is still in the running for another movie.

Hollywood-based Enderby Entertainment is scouting locations for Nomis, a thriller.

“We have to make a decision on where we will shoot it,” said producer Rick Dugdale. “There’s a possibility of Manitoba or Vancouver but we will focus on Vernon hopefully.”

Pre-production will begin in November, with filming underway in January.

The new schedule has forced some changes to the script.

“It’s tough to burn down a corn field in January so we need a different finale,” said Dugdale.

With Enderby being his hometown, Dugdale would like to film Nomis in the North Okanagan, but he admits there are possible hurdles.

“The thing missing in the North Okanagan is crew. If there was a full-time crew there, we don’t have the travel costs of bringing people up from Vancouver,” he said.

“If it comes down to $200,000 or $300,000 difference, perhaps we can look at Vernon.”

Manitoba has experienced crew available in Winnipeg and a range of tax incentives for film productions.

“But trying to convince actors to go to Manitoba in January is a little more difficult than B.C.”

Before settling on Manitoba, producer Rick Dugdale scouted locations in Louisiana.

  13. Hold on...
If Henry is shooting at the end of this month then what about the Omaze contest? When is that? Valentines day? I only ask because it said it had already started but the winner said it's yet to come. I feel bad for the her if the contest isn't going through.

  14. EXCELLENT news! Nice to know that in addition to his charity work, Henry wants to branch out and be known for something other than Superman. That's what you call humble...

  15. Nomis is about an american police force who trap an online predator?

If that's the case then it's obvious who the online predator is, the one and only miss Daddario. I like the twist. Unless there's no twist then it's obvious who it is.

    1. Thank you so much for sharing, but that gives away too much of the plot. We're going with what they've released out of respect for the filmmakers. But really appreciate it.

    2. By "released" I mean in their official announcement.

    3. Yeah don't want to ruin it and have them make a different storyline. People shouldn't try figure out what it's about otherwise it will delay the production even more, especially if it exactly what it's about.

      Delete
    4. The synopsis has been published online already via various proper movie sites, nothing major but it's there.

    5. Yes, it's the one we're quoting by THR, also on Deadline, Screen daily, etc. But the link shared included additional details likely shared in the earlier stages of getting the movie made and meant for that audience. Last thing we want is to ruin the plot twists. We'll report it when it hits the trades or someone involved in the film talks about it. Again, out of respect for the cast and crew.

  17. At last, a non super hero movie for Henry. Yay! The pictures of Canada are beautiful. Not everyone in the world wishes they were living in Florida, California, a beach community, etc. I am excited for this new project. I hope we don't have to wait as long for this one as we have for Sand Castle.

  18. This is great news for Henry.... and us fans. I hope this gives him the opportunity to showcase what a versatile and talented actor he is. In a way I hope he plays the bad guy. It would be so far removed from the beautiful man we know him to be
