Justice League: Official Logo, Synopsis, Tons Of Details!

"Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions."

There is A LOT to digest following the release of the details journalists learned, during their visit to the Justice League set outside of London. Start with the video from JoBlo.com, then make your way down the links from the different outlets. What stuck out to us? Supes will have longer hair, possible new costume (yes!), and will return later in the film (which we kind of figured).

But What About Superman?

Henry Cavill was not on the set the day we were there (which, again, was just this past Friday). The talking points on Superman were basically this: Yes, of course he’s coming back. No, we aren’t going to tell you how. When we were given a tour of the costume shop (all the costumes are made on site), Superman’s costume was suspiciously missing — which probably means there will be some sort of redesign they don’t want us to know about yet. --

Superman may have “died” in the climactic battle of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice but like most comic book character deaths, that means little. The final scene of BvS clearly shows the dirt above his coffin defying gravity and as producer Deborah Snyder put it best when we visited the War Room of the production for Justice League, “obviously Superman is part of the Justice League.”

“And we know where we ended up with him,” she continues. “And there wouldn’t be a Justice League without Superman. But I think his way back to us we don’t want to really spoil that. But he’s here. He’s back there,” she finishes, pointing to a standee cardboard cutout of Henry Cavill suited up in the red and blue beside the other Justice League members.

Superman was entirely absent from the sets we visited, from the costume department, and mostly from the concept art as well for Justice League. According to producer Charles Roven and director Zack Snyder, Superman’s return and role in the film is part of the story and not something they want to spoil a year and half out from release. --

The one character noticeably absent from everything that we saw on the Justice League set was Superman, and it was here that producer Deb Snyder and her husband, director Zack Snyder, played coy. As you all remember, Batman v Superman ended with the world mourning the death of Superman (Henry Cavill). But Snyder consciously ended his movie with a few pieces of dirt levitating off of Superman's coffin, indicating that the hero wouldn't stay dead for too long.

But for all of the storyboards we saw for Justice League, the bulk of the movie seemed to involve Batman and Wonder Woman recruiting three additional members of the team -- Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) -- and preparing for the arrival of a new threat. Superman wasn't part of any of these scenes, from what we were shown, though the team made it clear that he's absolutely part of the Justice League that they were forming.

When I specifically pressed Snyder on the mystery stance that they were taking regarding Superman, he explained:

I wanted to get to a Superman [in Dawn of Justice] who has a reason to be Superman. A reason to feel the way he felt about humanity, or feel the way that we all understand about him from the comic books. He's pretty -- as far as a moral compass goes, he's pretty [much] the thing. But I feel like he had to go through something to be that. And I'm not saying he shows up in this movie... [Laughs] There's a process, clearly, that would have to go on in the... I feel like the idea is to -- that's part of the story. If he does appear, I think that would be a big part of the story, right? Like, how you bring him back. --
cinemablend.com

Justice League is now also described as a standalone film (though Zack Snyder stresses that a second one is still on the schedule for June 14, 2019). READ ON..

I brought up the same question earlier in the day to Deborah Snyder, who told me that Bruce Wayne has renewed his faith in humanity after seeing Superman’s sacrifice.

“I think Superman’s death made such a strong effect on Batman that I think he really regains faith in humanity and everything that’s good, because here’s this alien that just gave his life, really, for us,” she said. “And I think this really changes who Batman is, and I think he really feels responsibility to honor him, because he didn’t feel like he did it while he was living, so I think you really are seeing the elevation of these heroes.”

And apparently there is more on the way.. makes you wonder what they have planned for Comic-Con!

TONS of awesome info in those links. Filming is set to wrap in October via Collider:

Justice League is filming in London until September and after they wrap there they go to Los Angeles and another still to be determined location. Filming is currently scheduled to wrap in October.

So what do you guys think? -- let us know below. We'll keep updating this post as we get more details.

  1. As much as I love what I'm hearing no mention of Wonder Woman and hardly anything on Superman. Okay his hair will be a little long and he's not going to play much of a part in the first act but I want DC/WB to know that the man of steel is more than a power house. BvS focused on Batman more yes Supes played a part in changing how he seeks justice but I want Superman to have more screen time and not just show up at the end. There's more to the character and I just hope that they don't waste him yet again. It focused more on Batman. :/ and we got a little about the other characters.

  2. WOW... calm down guys!!! we've got a slight sneak peak at the film if you want to even call it that. I'm excited to see what happens... and how the league will come together and fight to protect the world. I think with Batman Vs Superman many didn't like the fact they showed doomsday so most of what's to come in under lock and key. Lets just wait till comic con or at least the end of the year to see what is shared next. A longer haired Superman YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS please with the beard :D

HAVE HOPE GUSY! HOPE!!!!!! Nicole :)

  5. It sounds like Supes is going to show up in the third act, save the day (again) and then be largely ignored in the DCCU (again). WB/DC pivots to Batman. Superman as nothing more than a plot device to further this new Batman story.

Since Henry's 3 picture deal with WB as Supes will be fulfilled and there's no guarantee of a second JL, this may be the last time we see Henry as Supes. And maybe that's a good thing. If WB can't figure out what to do with Superman, perhaps it will be good gor Henry to be able to move on to other things. Maybe the ju- jitsu was about something entirely different than Supes. Maybe it was about something more human where hand to hand combat would actually be needed as in a special agent named Bond?! Wishful thinking.

  6. Today was only a sneak peak and I'm glad of that because I cannot wait to book my tickets to go and see Justice League and of 'cause brilliant things take time to produce, it will be worth waiting for. For obvious reasons cast members are under pain of death (probably) to give anything away or leave things lying around, the possible image of Henry in the black super suit presents stunning images in our heads, I know what I would be like if I was a member of that cast, walking around with a cheeky glint in my eyes going "I know something you don't know" and loving it. It's the mystery of it all that makes this buzzing. Plus yes Henry as 007 is great to imagine, can't help but thinking that a second turn as Napoleon Solo could be great. Plus Wolverine is going to be vacant as Mr Jackman is retiring him, what better a man could fill it than Henry. With his respect for other movie houses and heroes, it could be fantastic (providing contracts don't collide) yet what a stunning Wolverine he could make 😉 Until then the Justice League ride looks pretty good so far! Xx

  7. I hope WB are smart enough to extend Henry's contract! He's the first superman in ages that is doing an AMAZING JOB! the first actor since the last Christopher Reeve that has taken the character to new heights! One can only hope and pray that they keep Henry on as Supes for many more years to come. He seems to really enjoy the role PLEASE WB KEEP HENRY AS OUR MAN OF STEEL. Think 007 isn't going to be HC to be honest as for him playing Wolverine that could be interesting but I would rather him stay at DC :D

  8. I don't think Henry will be replaced as Superman; I just don't think there will be a Superman after JL. I don't we're going to see a second JL. I think DC will concentrate on Batman as well as the other characters before doing another film containing the Superman character. I'm such a downer about this, but I think WB is going with Batman/Affleck. WB has no vision when it comes to Superman.

  9. Pff this sucks! batman this and batman that! it's all about the dark knight. For years we've waited for a new SUPERMAN finally we have one and WB is just pushing him aside. I'm all for WB/DC working on other DC characters but Superman opened the door and man of steel was EPIC! We should get a petition going to get Henry another solo film. Since JL 2 isn't happening why not another MOS movie.

  11. How many Batman films do we need? It's not just about him :( I love supes!!!!!!!! the flash is awesome too. I just feel because it's Affleck they'll just give him what he wants. Henry worked so hard at superman and it's a bit of a kick in the teeth that there isn't a MOS 2 in the works.

  12. Oh... batman's got a new car
    and oh.... new armour suit!
or and not forgetting he's going to find the league
oh... and he tried to kill Clark!

What about Clark and finally becoming the superman we all know and love. wB/DC can you guys please explain this?

  13. Man, I was really hoping for some Superman/Cavill updates. He wasn't even on the set when they visited. WHAT?! I'm not sure what their plan is with Superman because it seems like they're giving him the cold shoulder. I think Cavill looks the part but he could do with a better script. Correct me if I'm wrong but a couple of months back it was mentioned that WB/DC had two unannounced movies which already had release dates - I think it was rumoured that MOS2 would be one of them, I think. I guess we'll just have to get our Cavill/Supes updates on HCN and Henry's own instagram account. WB/DC don't seem to think he's important enough. Sorry, rant over :)

  14. I really try to not be so negative about this stuff....but I have to say, I'm not excited about this. I just feel that Superman is getting the shaft. Along with Henry. I agree with those above. This is going to be a Batman movie with the JL thrown in.

  15. I think Superman is getting sidelined and i hate it.. not just because of Henry but because i've loved Superman since i was 5 years old and it sucks that these writers can't figure out what to do with him because they think people can't relate to Superman. I know he'll swoop in, save the day and then end up on the bench again unless they do another Justice League movie in 2019. I would be more excited for this if it didn't feel like Superman was an afterthought or knowing that Mera will have more screen time than Superman.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I can't believe what I'm hearing. "Henry won't be Superman anymore?" "Superman is getting sidelined?" Not a chance! Henry said quite a while back that he wants to play Superman for many years to come (in fact, someone go on google right now and type in "Henry Cavill wants to play Superman for many years to come") and even said at one point that his experiences in the DCEU have caused him to realize just how much he loves the character. But this is only the tip of the iceberg (so strap in: this is gonna be a long one).

People actually think Superman is being brushed aside and will be an afterthought? What exactly did they think these quotes meant?

"Superman may have “died” in the climactic battle of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice but like most comic book character deaths, that means little. Producer Deborah Snyder put it best when we visited the War Room of the production for Justice League, “obviously Superman is part of the Justice League” and “...we know where we ended up with him,” And OF COURSE, “...there wouldn’t be a Justice League without Superman. 17. Clearly, they know what they're doing. It's going to take something special in order for Superman to come back. However, I can understand why people felt BVS was more Batman-centric, but that's only because he is a new iteration that needs introduction. And when you think about it, it was still Superman's world. Literally everything in this film short of the giant bat nightmare had something, directly or indirectly, to do with Superman...

The Waynes' death tying to the Martha moment, the Black Zero event, the discovery of kryptonite, the African incident, Clark's tub scene with Lois, the White Portuguese mystery and Bruce's compiled data of Superman, Lex Luthor's pitch on planetary security, Luthor's exchange with Finch, the "False God" Hate crime, Bruce's rant about Superman against Clark, the Superman question, Batman's "knightmare", rant against Superman, and pursuit of the kryptonite, the Senate bombing, Batman stealing the kryptonite and training, Superman's visions of his father and confronting of Luthor, Superman's brawl with Batman until the latter comes to his senses, Batman saving Martha, Batman standing by Superman's side to fight Doomsday and sadly carrying his body to Lois, visiting (and in the Ultimate Cut even PAYING) his funeral and making a vow on his grave to honor him, and refusing to brand Lex (whose done nothing but try and kill Superman) due to Superman's sacrifice restoring his humanity. Superman's presence was all over this film whether he was on screen or not. Though, I can understand why people wanted him to have more screentime, something he'll have a lot of in the Ultimate Cut.

I'm all for a standalone Superman solo feature, but first, they need a script to get things moving. I'm sure it's on the DC Film slate, but that means nothing unless they have a story. However, I will bet that once Supes comes back better than ever, many will BEG more than ever for a Superman solo feature and WB will make it as much a priority as the Batman feature.
