Developing: Henry Departs 'Stratton' Over Creative Differences

Today GFM Films announced through Screen Daily, that Henry has left Stratton over creative differences just days before filming was set to begin in Italy:

“But just before leaving Cannes last Friday we were informed by the production company that they wanted to push the start date back by around three weeks to finalise some additional casting and make some further fixes to the script.

“Then, during several meetings this week in London with both sets of producers including Henry Cavill, he told us he has decided not to shoot this script at this time. He had a different vision of what the film should be to us and the production team and wanted to delay production until September and shoot a different story and script.”

You can read the rest over at Screen Daily. Keep in mind that right now we're only getting GFM's side of the story. We've reached out to Henry's reps and will update if/when we get a quote from them.

UPDATE: GFM Films tells Variety that Henry's move to leave the project, was specifically due to issues with the script:

“It is with great regret that we announce that Henry Cavill has pulled out of ‘Stratton’ due to creative differences on the script of the movie. With production due to commence next week, we wish to keep the production team together and Simon West as director so are working now to replace Henry. Production will be delayed whilst we do this. Further announcements will be made in due course.”

We support Henry in everything he does, and trust his decisions. Stratton was supposed to be the first project for his newly formed company, Promethean Productions. He'll soon be headed to San Diego to promote Batman v Superman at Comic-Con, and then turn around and promote The Man from U.N.C.L.E. which is set for an August 14 release. Trust us, you're gonna love, love, LOVE HIM as Solo.

Got your back, Henry xx

And your fans are here for you ;)

So apparently it's all about the beard.. you guys.. We love you Henry!

  3. I'm sad to hear this, but Henry must have good reasons to do that, so... I'll trust he's doing the right thing for him and his career. Pity we won't see him as Stratton, but oh well... We can't get everything we want.

  4. That is a major bummer. But, it sounds like he was still willing to shoot the role, just wanted more work done on the script. The film company is the one who wanted to shoot on that schedule and decided to move forward without Henry. I wonder how much of that financing came through because Henry's name was attached. If he doesn't believe in the script as is, then he shouldn't shoot it. Was there ever even more cast announced? Kind of hard to shoot a film like this with no other cast.

Well, this isn't the first time this has happened and it surely won't be the last. That's how he ended up in U.N.C.L.E.

  5. Echoing what the others say and yes definitely Henry has his reason and we will definitely respect it. I am sure he will have other plans coming up and we just need to continue to show our support in whatever he does. I know he definitely has my support. :)

  6. His reason is that he he has decided to spend the summer with me!!

  7. He clearly has his reasons. And honestly, I think it may be a blessing in disguise. The director really isn't great IMHO and hasn't done a decent film for years - this would have been Henry's first venture with his new company and it would all be resting on him. So much pressure. At least now he has an open schedule to enjoy comic con and MFU and some downtime and be open to any other roles that interest him. Hopefully NOT the Fifty Shades rumour though! Interested to see what he does next. He has a very sensible (and beautiful) head on those broad shoulders of his. I 100% trust his judgement. HC for the win! <3 xxx

  8. I believe Henry knows what he is doing and what is best for him at the moment. This project was very important to him, so this decision was a difficult one. We support you Henry! Best things to come to you! muaxx

  9. Hi everybody I've been very busy the whole day cleaning my room and rearranging my things so I've been totally out of the loop. I just found out about Henry and the fact that he pulled out of the movie Stratton. Needless to say Henry will always have my love and support in whatever he wants to do in life. Even though this news is shocking I am positive that Henry knows what he's doing, has anyone checked on him and found out how he is doing? I hope he's okay I'm really worried about him, it must've been very difficult for him to come to a decision like this just days before filming starts. #LoveYouHC

  10. Why on earth would you be worried about him?....

  13. It sounded like the newer script was going to have more action. Maybe Henry wasn't pleased with that and wanted a character driven script. Of course action was going to be included in a movie like this but characters can get lost. Just thinking out loud. We'll see if Henry releases his own statement. I'm actually really curious about the authors reaction. He seemed to really like Henry.

Hopefully Henry will find another script where he can honor the military the way he wants. That's what upsets me the most. Henry really seemed excited about honoring them and doing their work justice.

  14. I hear they want to do an Immortals sequel..but even if Henry was available he probably wouldn't do it. What demigod trumps Superman, roles are too similar. Looks like our Henry is going for real diversity. Personally I would like to see a biopic on a notable British hero.

    1. A biopic on a notable British hero sounds good to me too. I'd like to see something character driven as opposed to action driven.

  15. Ok so I'm really bummed right now but he must have been really unhappy with the script for him to pull out last minute. This project was very dear to his heart so I know it was really difficult for him to make this decision. I can't imagine how he feels and Charlie as well.
    Aaaaashhhhh I feel sad...:0(

    2. WOW.....I'm shocked and disappointed. I was really looking forward to Henry playing Stratton. But I understand that the script has to be up to par so obviously it was not. Man I feel like such a chick right now! I'm upset about this...crazy O_O
River deep breaths ok, I know you were so pumped about Stratton;)

  16. Well...perhaps his production company will still be involved a bit, so we'll wish it well and cut it loose... but anyway...Henry...I have another even bigger/interesting military role idea for you you might have interest in... :D <3 <3 <3 Cheer up babydoll...there's always another good role to play.

  17. What if they don't find the right actor to fill the role though? They may need to renegotiate with Henry and his schedule/script interests. Idk...hopefully the right thing will happen for everyone involved. The main thing to remember is...films are stories + resources + people + timing. So...if any of the elements need to be altered, there's a million creative ways to do it to satisfy everyone's needs...including interchanging the elements to make sure it's done the way so that the players involved feel is right for them. So...anyway...I know that sounded a lil bit stupid, but I was just trying to make Henry feel better. Basically, he should be drinking beer over here for moral support regarding this subject matter, but I'll send positive energy and big hug for Henry from here as well...Love you, Henry...<3 <3 <3 XOXOXO

  18. I am truly impressed. Standing up for one's principles is not always easy. This is especially true when it involves our deepest desires. Henry has just shown us all his absolute strength of character. Well done. Cynthia

  19. The actors aren't like pieces of chess moving as the producer want. on my opinion the actors must do theme moves that thay thinking because the poepl thinking that the filmes carrying apart of them true character in the real life

  20. When GFM films announced the June 1st shooting date for Stratton ten days ago, their website referred
to a new script for the film.I'm guessing this new script/storyline was quite a bit different to the one Henry had signed up to play?....Also they seem to have been very last-minute in announcing the script-change,so probably they were hoping to "bounce" Henry into accepting it,thinking that he had no option so close to the start of shooting but to go along with it.?Good on you,Henry for sticking to to your principles.I would expect nothing less from ya,Superman!

    1. That was my first thought too. Henry wasn't happy with the new script. He already shot promo pics as Stratton. Who knows when those shots were actually taken. He was ready to go. I think the new script changed all that for him. I don't think GFM were thinking he'd walk. My opinion only of course.

  21. So, Duncan posted this on his Facebook page but it's gone already. I wonder if GFM put a gag order on him. The more I think about this whole situation, it all seems so underhanded.

"Apologies for ignoring all the questions. Hopefully you understand this is not the time to talk about it. Very disappointing of course."

  22. Real life Game of Thrones going on. Henry holds The Cards and Keys to Something bigger than any film or role (unless he doesn't say no to roles like Jack Hyde - one sided sleaze balls that train Kids, Girls and Everyone on a mass scale to hate him).

Rule of Thumb: If you're going to play a bad guy, be a complicated one who's a little bit good too (like Gen. Zod). So people will both love AND hate you. Otherwise, you're doomed. Done as a public role model. But better yet, be A Star in whatever form that leads...even perhaps one that's very human, but maybe a little flawed but at least honest in a good role...instead of everything bad in a shit role in a worthless film.

If you can't work it out cooperatively, Henry, just keep calm, quiet, prepare and wait for A Jewel of the Nile...and better Roles - in Film and Life. With a creative mind are Infinite possibilities...better stories to live for, show and tell...
