Lex Confirmed For JL, Wonder Woman At SDCC, Vote Supes!

Image: Warner Bros.

It's not like we didn't know it was coming, but Jesse Eisenberg has now confirmed Lex Luthor is appearing in Justice League. He made the announcement at MCM Comic-Con in London:

"I'm kind of in wait. They just started filming Justice League, so I'm kind of like waiting for my crack at it. I don't know what I'm allowed to say, because I feel like there's probably some drone following me from DC, and if I say anything wrong I get, you know, picked off (..) I love it, and I love everybody who's in it. You know, it's a really talented group of people."

He went on to talk about what he tried to accomplish when playing the iconic character. Watch below.

We're less than two months away from San Diego's Comic-Con, and you know we're likely getting a Justice League surprise or two. We'll be there to bring you all the excitement from Hall H. For sure Warner Bros. will be bringing Wonder Woman, and fans will also be able to buy this awesome Mattel collectible revealed by USA Today.

At $80, the Amazon Princess is not cheap, but if you're a fan this is definitely one kick ass doll to own.

Cliché magazine had a chance to interview Sammi Rotibi. He played General Amajagh in Batman v Superman, holding Lois hostage and facing the consequences when Supes arrived to rescue her..

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is out now. Can you tell us a little about your role as General Amajagh?

My character is very pivotal in the movie. [If you have not seen it yet] I can tell you it’s an AMAZING ride. Batman going up against Superman! I promise you they hold no punches. Zack Snyder (Director) really went all out for this one. When it’s over, you’re gonna wanna see more! You’re gonna go back and see it again. Real talk!

What are some of your favorite experiences or take-aways from working on this film?

Getting to work with a great director like Zack Snyder, who makes your job easy because he puts you into this world and you just follow. The actors I also worked with, the big sets—it was an awesome crew. Just the experience of it all was massive! I feel really blessed to be a part of it.

Some of the props used in that scene, are now on display as part of the new DC Universe: The Exhibit at the Warner Bros. studio in Burbank. Check them out!

Finally, we have a huge request for you guys and you've always come through for Henry. He's now nominated as Choice SciFi Movie Actor at the Teen Choice Awards. The ceremony is watched by millions and it would be a proud moment for Supes to win. The vote is tight because Marvel fans are not letting up. So let's keep voting daily, spread the word, Henry deserves that surfboard and the honor.

  1. Don't care what anybody says: I enjoyed Jesse's Lex Luthor. He reminded me of the mad scientist depiction of the character back in the Golden Age, but with a fresh gravitas.

Henry should, and hopefully will, win! Although, I can't help but admit how terrified I am of him losing to Ben...

    1. I like Jesse's Lex as well. Especially when you hear him talk about where he was coming from with his version of the character. And as far as the competition for the teen choice award, judging by the online voting it's not Batman we need to worry about but Cap and Iron Man. Hopefully Supes edges them out.

  2. The "winners" will be whomever agrees to attend and only those categories will be televised. I'm so jaded.

I dug Jesse as Lex, too. The only problem with the movie is they rushed into the story without establishing the motivation of the characters well enough. If you're familiar with the comicbooks, it was easier to make the connections, but if not, I can understand being lost. There should have been another standalone Supes movie that could have included Lex and Bruce Wayne is smaller ways and would have introduced those characters issues with Supes while establishing the Supes/Clark character more fully. They just hsd to get to Justice League and they did it way too quickly.

  3. I have to agree. I liked BvS and thought Lex was good! However the story was rushed a bit and the motivations wasn't explored or explained properly. If you read the comics then you'll understand better. However I feel that there should have been and should be another Supes solo movie. There's so much to this character that hasn't been explained. Henry is the best superman we've got! It's sad because I like Ben but he's just come in and taken the shine away from Henry. I do hope with JL there's more screen time for HC and we'll start to see the superman we all know and love so much. I'm with Jeremy Irons the film was overstuffed and muddled. Whether that was the editing, the script or directing. I just hope and pray that JL puts everything which may or might have confused people straight. Not knocking the film at all.

  4. I so lamented a solo Superman sequel and I bet that had it not wanted to incorporate so many elements, it would have put EVERYTHING into perspective. But I am surprised that many had missed Lex's motivations and reasoning for his disdain towards Superman. There may be more in the edited version, but here's what I caught...

"Homeland Security? Oh no, no, no, Senator. Planetary Security."

"Yes, Superman. But there are more of them. Hiding on our little blue planet. It’d be best to prepare a silver bullet so that the day does not come that you are waving flowers at your children’s funerals!"

"You don’t have to use a silver bullet. But if you forge one, then we won’t have to rely on the kindness of monsters."

Basically, at least for this part of his reasoning, Lex says they should not rely on one being to save them and that they should have the means to defend themselves; also adding that he believes Superman is a potential threat that may need to be dealt with. Sounds pretty comics faithful, really…

    “The Red Capes are coming.”

"Devils don't come from hell beneath us; they come from the sky."

Believing strongly that a deterrent is needed against Superman, he views him as an evil being beneath his good deeds. Reminds me of “Lex Luthor: Man of Steel”, where he believes he’s the hero and Superman the villain.

"See how we define God depends on our tribe, Clark Joe. God is tribal. God takes sides. No man in the sky intervened when I was a boy to deliver me from Daddy’s fist and abominations! I figured it out way back that if God is all-powerful, he cannot be all-good. And if he's all-good, then he cannot be all-powerful. And neither can you be."

Basically, he sees Superman as the culmination of ignored cries for help while he was suffering at the hands of his abusive father (also comics accurate), showing that his hatred for him, in a twisted way, is a bit personal as well.

"They need to see you for the fraud you are with their own eyes. And tonight, they will! Because you, my friend, have a date right through his hate, to yours growing. However, it didn’t take much to push him over the edge. Little red notes, a big bomb, YOU LET YOUR FAMILY DIE!"

"Ah, Ah, Ah! You kill me, Martha dies. Fly away from here, Martha also dies, but if you kill the Bat and bring me his head, Martha lives."

"Quite a predicament! To save a life, God ultimately comes clean about how dirty he is! To save Martha, bring me the head of the Bat."

He intentionally manipulated Batman into a preemptive fight against Superman and to show that the latter is a fraud, he intended to have him killed or have him kill (proving Luthor’s theory that Superman is neither all-good or all-powerful if he does either or).

Jesse said Lex’s motivations were clearer for everyone in the original cut, so we make be able to make some sense in the Ultimate Cut.

  5. I say the film was confusing. As much as i liked it there were flaws. Superman only smiled a few times, Batman was angry at least 75% of the time. He was a bully and hated the fact Superman was trying to do the right thing. At the end he realised that. WW was great she held her own and made the fellas look immature. The JL tease wasn't all that! the film should have been called The Dawn of Justice. Superman got lost in the film, Lex was way to hype only liked him when he took Martha that's where we saw the real Luthor come to surface. Lois and the bullet storyline was okay but felt it wasn't needed. Everyone knows Superman doesn't use bullets. There were too many stories in one film. Doomsday should have been a solo supes film. WB is really pushing BATMAN and forgetting that Superman was the one who opened up the door. Then again this is hollywood the bigger the star the more they'll get. Poor Cavs

    1. Yeah, I recognize issues too in spite of appreciating the film. I think the Christ imagery was an issue (Superman isn't Jesus). The pacing was off (just like MOS, even though I loved that movie, too). And there are certain editing choices I find very questionable, like the fact that the scene where Superman is unable to find his mother with his senses due to all of the dark confusion in the city (a reference to the comics). For a little bit, I even had issue with the treatment of Jimmy Olsen, but that can be salvaged and wasn't the first time a popular character was mistreated in enjoyable films (Robin, Bane, Talia al ghul, the Mandarin, etc.)

For Superman, however, it's tough to smile when people misunderstand/hate you. Batman is always angry, but his reason for disliking Superman is because he blames him for MOS and believes he could go bad. Yeah, WW was the big takeaway, though! Lex didn't just kidnap his Mom, he blew up the capitol. And it wasn't the fact that those villagers were killed by bullets. It was that they were killed period and the fact that Superman was the only one around those bodies (and the fact that he tackled that African terrorist) was enough to incriminate him without looking at the causes of death. Doomsday wouldn't have really worked in a solo feature, though. He's more of plot device than a character. His entire purpose is to kill everyone and destroy everything in his path. Makes for a great fight, but not a serious story.

I would agree that Batman seems to be getting more attention, but then I looked again. Batman may have received a bit more attention in BVS, but his story had everything to do with Superman rather than himself (White Portuguese, kryptonite, Lex Luthor, saving Martha, attending Supes' funeral and vowing to follow his example, and refusing to brand Luthor due to the good Supes' restored in him). I wouldn't be worried, though. You saw how pitiful Batman was against Doomsday, an alpha-level planetary threat. It's probably gonna get worse for him in JL, leading him to become a "part-timer" who prefers to stay in Gotham for the most part just like in the comics. Superman's resurrection, as described by Zack, is going to be a monumentally grand part of JL. His birth was the deal in MOS and so was his death in BVS. His resurrection will be a big deal Zack said.

  6. I'm not going to write a book but I'll just say this as somebody who does not read comics....I had no problem following the story line.

  7. Yeah it did have a lot going on at the same time catch up with the storyline, however, it didn't stop me from enjoying the movie itself. I know people say superman played very little in the movie yet he's the one with the epic ending. Also what about the other characters who had a small part such as wonder woman, superman had more screen time than her for sure.
