Giant Statue Going Up On 'Batman v Superman' Set In Detroit

This is a sight that definitely looks promising, a giant Superman statue is going up at the latest Batman v Superman set in Detroit. We had seen some blurry photos floating around, but held off until we got confirmation and that came today via Bananadoc who shot these pics.

You can see a shot of the building that will reportedly become LexCorp on his site. Batman v Superman scenes are rumored to be filming there this week.

Back in LA, today Warner Bros. announced its plans for a Batman Exhibit in honor of his 75th anniversary. If you live in the area, definitely check it out.

A great start to the week, the latest as we get it!

  1. News at last! ;D Batman-minibuses are awesome, good for a Thematic Park. About Superman Statue, is imposible not to be seeing straight at that hand. Damn playful people over there...

    1. Huh? I don't get your meaning about statue's hand. what's the joke?

    2. Anonymous 9:08 PM,

The hand is in first place, sunlit?, and "in movement", for my eyes. There is no face yet. So the hand caught my attention. If I only see it, in a smaller frame... there are several meanings, IMO (that´s the playful thing... because it could have be a fist, or a stretched hand almost landing...), For me, the meaning is "come ....". To each is own, with so little material :D

  3. The Greeks had the Discus Thrower, the Italians had David during the Renaissance, then the French had the Thinker in the late 1800’s. In 2014, Detroit gets blessed with a sculpture of Henry’s beautiful body. So lucky :P

  4. Lots of sites are saying this its a memorial statue and Superman will be killed off in Batman vs Superman. I sure hope not. Henry hasn't even gotten to a third film. Its an weird statue though and I am a bit worried reading the speculation about what this means.

  5. To clarify what I said above. I don't mind if Henry leaves Superman after his 3 film deal is done. I just want it to be his decision and not have WB not option him for a third outing as Superman by killing his character off. I'm selfish for him, but that 3rd film will give him a big payday and allow him to pick and choose what films he does in the future.

    1. MOS underperformed. According to many reputable sites. The actor or character usually gets blamed. Think GL and Ryan Reynolds. Squeezing Cavill/Superman out of the DCU is not a surprise. Its par for the course.

    2. In comics, Superman doesn't died but is in a coma. MOS may have "under perform" but these two movies will boost the franchise. We might still get more Superman movies.

    3. Eventually yes. Another Superman film. Read the Forbes article linked from this site. It says the next Superman film is about a decade away. Cavill will be long gone by then and MOS long forgotten. WB cares about money. That from the Forbes article too..

  6. MOS "under performed"? Combined box office and DVD sales were close to $800 million. That's about the same as the first Iron Man did (with an extremely well known actor) and it's a franchise that is doing very well today. The first Thor did a little over $500 mill, the second Thor movie did about $700 mill. The first Captain America did $464 million and they still came out with a second film (Source: the-numbers.com).

There is no way they are killing Superman or try to get rid of Cavill, that's just silly because profits were made and plenty of fans were happy. If Superman does die, they'll find a way to bring him back as they always do in comics.

    1. I agree. I'm so tired of people saying MOS "under performed". That argument has gotten old.

  7. Looks like Superman dies at the end of Batman/Superman. It doesn't mean he won't be brought back to life for Justice league. Man of Steel made money but not enough for TW investors. If it had then a straight on Man of Steel sequel would be in the works. Hard to see WB dropping Superman all in all. Some say he will be the Hulk of DC film universe. Used only in team films. Will HC agree to sign on for more in a subordinate/secondary role? Doubt it, but who knows..

  8. IT would be a shame of they kill him off so soon, it will be disappointing. I would pretty much throw in the towel for DC. And yes mos did clear about $800 million, so they made there money and some. I just hope it's purely speculation. Cavill I love you!!!!! No one will top you as Superman!!!

  9. its a financial decision. MOS and SR did not perform well enough WB wants to try other characters. Find their lucrative IronMan/Captain America franchise. Be it Wonder Woman or Cyborg. They need to free up room for JL to include as many new characters to test as possible. That is why Supes is maybe going to be dropped. It makes sense if you step back and look at it w/o emotion.

  10. The handwriting was on the wall last July when Batman was announced as being in this film. WB was not happy with the profit from MOS. Deadline said it made only 30 million after DVD sales and all were factored in. Lowest profit for any recent comic book film.

The kicker was, and people ignored this, reports like this in HR that Affleck was brought in to "carry" Cavill. That Superman/Cavill could not carry a tentpole franchise in WB's eyes.

When I read this article last summer I knew Superman wouldn't be getting any more solo films. I thought WB would at least take up Cavill's 3rd and final option with a JL film. Now that is not even a sure thing. I hope for Henry's sake that they include him in JL and, even if they don't, he still has the potential to have big successful films in the future.

This should not come as a surprise. This HR article is from last summer.

  11. It absolutely makes sense they want to do Justice League. The Avengers and X-Men films - the format of having multiple characters- is a big, money maker. Who would blame them for trying.

Why is it emotional to ask what the under performance was based on? If it's based on what a journalist on a magazine said, then I'm sorry, but it is speculation and theorizing until there is an official statement from WB (and they did not sound dissappointed back in June of last year http://www2.warnerbros.com/web/corpcomm/portal/press_release.jsp?id=WBP_MOS500MillionBO_06.30.13) or if anyone can actually see Henry Cavill's contract in addition to on going amendments.

What I'm questioning is the logic of the statements made above. How is Captain America more lucrative when the first film barely did over $400 mill, and the next one, Winter Soldier did $700 mill? Very simple math here....that's still less than MOS even after exposure from the Avengers movie.

So again I ask, how and compared to what did it under perform? I can't imagine they're unhappy with him. The guy practically embodies the character on a daily basis. I'm sorry, but no one would have it so together, every single day, unless a lot wasn't at stake.

  12. This is from Deadline. They list all the films for 2013. This is a summary for MOS. Underwhelming performance. Thor2 BTW made around 150 million in profit so you can't just compare the BO. its cost and MOS cost way too much for the money it returned.

Its not a personal thing with Cavill. its a money thing. he was not enough of a draw so they dropped the originally planned sequel and may not include him in JL. its really Superman. The character is not a draw for modern audiences. Has nothing to do with how hard Henry works - he works his butt off. No one doubts that.

Man Of Steel just didn’t make enough money. According to our experts, Gravity poured off $209.2 million to Warner Bros and RatPac, the latter of which got kissed into this movie on eve of release, after all of Warner Bros’ other financiers turned it down at earlier stages. Man Of Steel, meanwhile, returned $42.7 million to Warner Bros. Considering the cost and creative brainiacs who hatched that project, that is underwhelming. Here, it is this film’s kryptonite.

  13. Super Cav-El is a fine Diamond and EvEryonE knows it. So, some of the comments above are just ridiculous. He is an incredibly fine actor (one of the best looking ones as well)...is extraordinarily talented, professional and did an incredible job in MOS--which made a nice profit. The producers did not encourage putting Batman into the scene as result of MOS not doing well...any more than the other studio's producers created Avengers as a result of Ironman not doing well. They are all just doing it to include more fans of the popular stories/characters who enjoy these kinds of films (and for reasons that the world doesn't understand yet, but will in time because there's a universal theme with metaphors that exist in real life that will manifest later). All the films did well.

So, I'm not sure why some one needs to get on here and be all negative before anything is even given a chance to be made, observed, enjoyed...with the focus being on money only--as if the stories told, experiences that happen and people's lives and all things considered do not matter whatsoever.

Anyone who has seen Henry's work knows that he is a multi-faceted, incredibly good actor who can play action, drama, comedies and anything he is given very well with no problem. He gets into character and makes it believable and gives the story what it needs. So, I have a feeling that someone wrote some of the things above out of jealousy because the fact is...if the studio felt that Henry did anything less than outstanding in the role of Superman/Kal El...they simply wouldn't have him back again. Period. There's too much money involved. They would pick someone else (or maybe even wait to bring the whole story back instead of continue on with it). And that's the truth. Look at all the past Superman and Batman films where the actors did a good job, but still did not come back (some may not have wanted to, but...). But Henry's back--because HENRY IS SUPERMAN--and the best one at that.

He embodies the role and character perfectly...and so the decisions for whether or not Superman will be in this story or that story--are a result of the stories themselves...and whether or not the character belongs in them. I did not hear/read one comment that Henry should have done this or that or anything differently with the character--he was on point. Perfect. I hope he disregards all outside commentary while continuing on with filming...and just keeps doing it exactly the way he has been doing...it's Perfect. He understands the spirit and heart of the character...and it comes through the way it needs to. Ben understands Batman too...and he will be very good as well.

The studio was very happy with Henry...and is lucky to have him...because he's exactly the kind of actor everyone loves working with--he's very good, knows how to deliver and is a team player. They know he is popular with others/the fans not only because he's a good actor and good looking, but a good human being. They won't be in a hurry to get rid of anyone with those kinds of qualities. So, anyone who wants to write anything negative about Henry or Batman V Superman before it is even made or given a chance to see on the screen--that person isn't giving credit to or even being fair to everyone involved in the production of it...the director, the writers, the actors, the whole entire team, etc. It's disrespectful to everyone who busted their ass creating a beautiful production and the people/fans who enjoyed it. They did a fantastic job with MOS...they will do so again with B v.S...and people are looking forward to it with great anticipation. So...to hell with the naysayers. People just need to patient now...and relax...and let them do the work and do their thing without dissecting the hell out of it too much before it even gets out of the shoot. :) Thanks for the updates, HCN. 15. People need to stop worrying about BvS...is going to be awesome!! And by the way, Henry is set to be in the Justice League film...is listed in his IMDB profile. I do not believe WB thinks MOS underperformed....it was a reboot of the character and made alot of money and Henry did an awesome job. All the fans has to be happy that Henry has the opportunity to play this character and that we are going to experience for the first time a teamup movie with Superman and Batman. I can't wait!! (Sorry for my english, not my first language).

After his commitments with the franchise I would love to see him in a period drama or romantic comedy. He will be great :)

  16. I agree about seeing him in dramas and romantic comedies. His commitment to the franchise ends after the first JL film which may film next year so by 2016 he could be moving on to these other kinds of projects.

  17. Not a fan of comic book movies really so I am looking forward to Henry getting to move past Superman. Just think of the film opportunities he'll have! One day I believe he will take over the role of James Bond.

  18. Everyone is free to speak his mind in this blog, so I believe. I am from Brazil, I love superman since I was a child and I think Henry Cavill was born to be supermam. I come to this blog nearly everyday to check on Henry and his current Batman/supermam project. Now, this person who believes or want was to believe that man of Steel disappointed, made no profit and that there will be justice league without superman is just a hater and a internet showoff. Come on, His assumptions and sources are unreliable. MoS was a huge success and proftable, not to the extent of Avengers and Iron man 3. Some critics didn't like the screenplay, but nearly everyone adored Henry's superman. Superman and Batman are the core and heart of Justice League, Henry will make tons of money out of it and will be even more a global face. This troll and hater here is getting me tired.

    1. I agree with Anon 7:58 pm and everyone else who is being supportive of Henry Cavill and this project. I hope Mr. Cavill and this movie are very successful.
P.S. At 7:58 pm, I know this is off topic but how do you feel about the World Cup? I keep hearing many are not happy about.

    2. We had massive demostrantions last year, there´s also been some strikes but I am excited with the world cup. We are a developing country but we have done great in the last 12 years with Lula and Dilma. Our unemployment rate is record low, our economy have grown less than the other BRICS but much more than US and Europe, but we still have a long road to go in areas such as public health and security. Our people is demanding more! We have presidential elections this year and the conservative forces here and abroad, together with midia tycoons are working to defeat Dilma and Lula´s project. These forces are also attacking the world cup and manipulating people´s perception. But in the end our people will support our national team and welcome foreign visitors, we love soccer/football here, it´s a national passion.
