'Man of Steel' Coming To HBO, Zack Snyder Skirts Costume Question, Why Do We Connect With Superman?

Just in time to get us ready for the start of filming of Batman vs. Superman in Detroit, Man of Steel is coming to HBO!

Mark your calendar - Man of Steel premieres Saturday April 5, at 9PM/8C (via ManofSteelFanPg).
We have a feeling this may turn into a marathon viewing weekend for us, how many times have you watched it? ;)

We tried and *failed* to get some serious scoop on the Batman suit from costume designer Michael Wilkinson this week (he did share some very cool details about Henry's suit with us). Clevver Movies had the same luck, after asking director Zack Snyder about a rumored suit reveal (at about :50):

"Oh really? Okay. I can't… I cannot confirm that."

Booh, we're no good at ambush journalism so guess the waiting continues. Moving on, The Hollywood Reporter has a really great article on who really owns the Batmobile. Warner Bros. is going to court over it this summer, read more. This week a panel of Vancouver academics, talked about the reasons why we connect with superheroes including Superman:

Superman taps into an important element of American identity, said Mr. Adleman. Superman is the “defender of liberal American values” and an “avatar for America itself.”

Superheroes connect at a “deep level” with human fantasies, said Ms. Fernandez. “Why do we need fantasies?” asked Ms. Fernandez. “For Freud, it was the fastest and safest way to satisfy an unconscious desire.”

There you go, psychoanalyzed in a few moments and you didn't have to foot the bill. Read the rest of what those experts had to say.

Sure, Man of Steel brought us a gorgeous new look at the Fortress of Solitude, but now real life Lois Lane aka photographer Kate Friend, gives us a breathtaking glimpse inside the real thing: Iceland's biggest glacier.

Nice way to kick off the weekend, check out the rest of the pics.  Have a great one everyone!

  1. Feel bad for Henry. All the focus is on the Batman and WW suits and Ben and Gia. It's like he's a guest star in his own movie. No wonder he doesn't look like a happy camper in some of the photos coming out of Michigan.
