U.N.C.L.E. Heads To Italy: What You Can Expect In The Coming Weeks

With principal photography underway on The Man from U.N.C.L.E., we've gotten our first official behind the scenes look from the set. The picture was taken by photographer Nigel Rumble at Regent's Park in London. You can see videos and more pics, including one of Henry as Napoleon Solo in our wrap from that day. In the next few weeks production shifts to Italy. While we've covered some of what's expected to be shot there, the local newspapers are now giving us a play by play.

According to La Repubblica filming will begin in the Naples area, where more than forty trucks with equipment and sets are expected to arrive. The newspaper says about 180 production members will be employed during the shoot, that will also use two helicopters for aerial pics.

Warner Brothers has been working with city officials in the filming locations letting them know what to expect, which is how we're learning these cool details.

Local newspapers are reporting that The Man from U.N.C.L.E. will first shoot scenes at Baia Castle (we gave you a little more background info in this post). Filming will then reportedly move to the nearby "Villa Ferretti," a property confiscated from the mafia in 1995. It sits right under the shadow of the castle.

And this is where it gets exciting.

La Repubblica says in this scene "thirty rafts carrying special forces will launch an assault on the beach, in pursuit of an international criminal hiding in the halls of the Aragonese fortress (Baia Castle)."

UPDATE: Hello new villain who likely plays this role.

According to the paper, in the scene the criminal they are looking for tries to escape in a car, giving way to a chase that will lead up a tunnel to the lighthouse in Miseno. This is a view of Cape Miseno from Baia Castle.

Local reports say filming will then move to the port of Pozzuoli, which will be closed during filming for what La Repubblica describes as a key sequence.

The head of tourism spoke to the Italian media about the excitement surrounding the shoot, and the international exposure it will give the Naples area (includes old U.N.C.L.E. clips & a look at the filming locations).

Filming will then reportedly head to Rome and its surrounding areas, before the cast and crew resumes work in England. One of those locations will be the Villa Farnese in Caprarola. in addition to having a rich history and beautiful grounds, the villa was also featured in "The Godfather" Part III. A real Renaissance gem.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is expected to be released late next year. We're staying on top of the latest for you. Hopefully we get more set pictures soon!

P.S. We totally expect Henry to enjoy his favorite Italian dishes while he's there ;)

**Hot Italian accent alert**

Thanks for the help Giulia. x
