Breaking: Henry Joins Cast Of 'Mission: Impossible 6'

A post shared by Christopher McQuarrie (@christophermcquarrie) on

Henry has joined the cast of Mission: Impossible 6!

The huge announcement caught everyone by surprise, because of the unusual way it was released. Director Christopher McQuarrie asked Henry if he wanted to be part of the film in his new post on Instagram. That was followed by a series of funny back and forth comments between the two:

christophermcquarrie Say, @henrycavill. Had a thought. Curious if you're interested in a role in the 6th installment of Mission: Impossible. No pressure.

henrycavill How can I say no to a man with such perfect hair.....

christophermcquarrie @henrycavill excellent. Just a few caveats: must enjoy extreme heights, high speeds, motor vehicles of all varieties (especially aircraft), practical stunts, firearms, and sporadic exposition. All good?

henrycavill @christophermcquarrie only if I get to fly for real

christophermcquarrie @henrycavill I do believe I specified practical stunts. You in?

henrycavill Oh ok.....I'm in!

christophermcquarrie @henrycavill Outstanding. Welcome aboard. Your social media account will self destruct in 5 seconds.

Here are the initial details via Deadline:

McQuarrie returns as the helm, from a script he wrote, on this latest installment, along with Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, and Jeremy Renner. McQuarrie is producing alongside Cruise, Don Granger, J.J. Abrams and Skydance Production’s David Ellison and Dana Goldberg. Paramount will distribute the film in theaters July 27, 2018.

Simon Pegg is reportedly also set to return, and Vanessa Kirby has been cast in an unknown role.

This is what Variety has to say about the character Henry might be playing:

Plot details are still under wraps but sources say Cavill would play some sort of a right hand to the head of Cruise’s unit. Alec Baldwin played the role of Cruise’s boss in “Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation” but it is unknown if he will return as the part has been replaced with a new actor (Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Fishburne, Tom Wilkinson) in previous installments.

The Hollywood Reporter said last month that at least part of the movie could be filming in Paris this spring or early summer, with possible locations in New Zealand and the UK as well.

Congratulations Henry! -- We have no doubt you're going to OWN IT.

UPDATE: Henry's post on the big casting news..  who knew he had some mad Photoshop skills.

  3. Hello Again Mr Cavill. There are Absolutely, Unequivocally No Words for How Happy I am For You. I LOVE All of Your Work as The Good Guy. This is your Deeply Desired Step on to the Path of the Dark Jedi.

  5. Glad to hear he's in this role and that it is different than a comic book character. Wish he would be the major character, though. It looks as though Henry will consistently be cast in action movies.

    1. He cannot and shouldn't always be the main character. If Henry wants a career with longevity he needs variety and not just in genre but levels also. Getting cast in a major movie as Mission Impossible is a massive deal in itself. It isn't like people won't know who he is just because he's in a secondary character role. If he succeeds with this film who knows what other doors it may open for him in future. Henry is also getting to work with a great actor in Tom Cruise so I'm sure he's as happy as is.

  7. Henry Cavill is consistently in action movies because they are the roles he is auditioning for. It's that simple.

The instagram post from McQuarrie is basically the press release of Henry's casting. And what a great way to share the news with the general public!

I've been seeing that fans think that instagram conversation is the first time McQuarrie and Cavill have spoken about MI... huh huh believe me Henry's known for weeks if not months that he got the job! So excited to watch him on screen. CONGRATULATIONS HENRY!! :D

    1. Oo Geesh okay, we didn't know Henry had auditioned for the part, but good for Henry nonetheless. It seems everyone knows everything about Henry including who he dates, doesn't date etc..! Online news sources suggest Henry did get the part solely through social media..,we know only what is reported ...

    2. Anon - 8:41 AM nobody said anything about knowing everything about Henry so not sure why you think that especially bringing up his dating life (that's irrelevant here) and Anon - 7:44 AM does have a point though and you know what we have to remeber not everything is to be believed just because the media says so...

    3. Well you're making comments making it matter as fact that Henry did audition etc, were you there at the casting? Based on reports it does appear Henry was given the part over social media, so unless you're in any way associated with the production or casting how can you make comments that he had auditioned and how do you know he didn't get this job via social media alone as reported??, and you sound just like those who post assumptions about him and his entire life, unless you know Henry personally you're saying what you think, it's your opinion not fact that is all...Let's be happy for Henry he deserves to express himself creatively and broaden his carrer and his horizons and good for him.

  9. Guyss what we need to remember is that here at HCN we have people from ALL WALKS OF LIFE and ALL AGES reading here and yes that includes Henry Cavill fans whom are also in/have experience in the performance industry as he, so will ideas how it works with these things.

  10. Dunno if this is relevant but MI6 is the secret service in the uk. I wonder if he will play an Englishman?I love his voice.

    1. Does Mission Impossible deal with the UK in the movies? Never actually watched any of the movies myself... obviously need to now LOL!

    2. I'd be cool if he got to keep his accent. @9:35 they're all super fun, solid action films. But at the very least watch Rogue Nation (MI5). It's the same director, and Rebecca Ferguson's spy character was as strong as they come.

    3. She's back in this one too. Oh! and Tom always makes headlines when he's filming them because he performs his own CRAZY awesome stunts. YouTube them!

    5. Apparently, he's playing Tom Cruise's right-hand man. It said in some earlier sources and he happen to fit the role.

  11. I wasn't trying to be rude, just curious how at 7:44 am knows all those details that are not reported anywhere else?
Every news online suggest Henry was given the part via social media and at 7:44 am made comment stating otherwise and that he auditioned but Henry is Canada tight now so... if at 7:44 am has more information on Henry Cavill and his movie part than you posted here than by all means share but it seems she is just a fan like the rest of us making a comoment but it's not fact.., we all ponder on things but my source is social media and when somebody posts something otherwise it seems like they contradict the information online and it makes us other people ponder does this person know Henry himself or are they part of his friend circle or what?. Happy St. Patrick's day:)

    1. I think that is your problem right there your source is social media. The clue is in the name. News outlets are running with that naarative because that is why they do, pick up the first sign and run with it. How many times have the news published something that hasn't been majority correct? Plenty of times. They're using that narrative because HC and MI6 is new news. Regarding your comment on his audioning: auditions can take place months in advance of being allocated and published to media. Henry has been in Canada a few weeks now it doesn't mean he couldn't have had a casting before then nor does it mean he can't fly back and forth to castings as and when he needs to. He's flown plenty of times before to various places without being recognised there are not always sightings. It isn't about knowing Henry oneself or part of his circle, if the point of knowing how the industries work.

    2. PS. Not all who post here are 'she'.

    3. Some don't need auditions they're randomly picked if the director feels they're fit for the role from their recent/previous work. I think that's why the person is confused to why you brought up the fact that he may have auditioned prior to the anouncement. He maybe have done it during Nomis on his break or something. It is clear he got the role, so can we just leave it and move on, be excited? Why bother clawing at each other over nothing really.

    4. I think you've got the wrong person as I never brought up Henry auditioning prior to the announcement.

  12. Did you know Henry Cavill and Tom Cruise almost did a movie together; Man From Uncle, until Tom dropped out and Armie Hammer stepped in. So technically, they met before!!! So awesome!

  13. Admins - Any way possible we can have a process on HCN where we can tag other posters when replying to save from confusion? I've noticed misunderstandings happening a few times lately.

    1. I don't think so. When you reply just add the time and maybe date of the comment you are responding to. That way that person knows you are talking to them. Hope that helps.
