Just as things were starting to look promising in Detroit, we're hit with the big news: Man of Steel 2 will now be released on May 6, 2016.
BURBANK, CA – January 17, 2014 – Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that the release of Zack Snyder’s untitled Superman/Batman film has been moved to May 6, 2016, allowing the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story. The decision was made following the shift of the start of production to second quarter of this year. The Studio has also set a July 17, 2015, worldwide release date for its as-yet-untitled all-new Peter Pan adventure. Joe Wright will direct the epic live-action film about the boy who would never grow up, created by J.M. Barrie. The dual date announcement was made by Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, and Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President, International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.
In making the announcement, Fellman stated, “We are happy to take advantage of these coveted summer dates, which are perfect for two of our biggest tentpole releases. We share the fans’ excitement to see DC Comics’ most popular figures, Superman and Batman, together on the big screen for the first time, which will now be arriving in theatres in May 2016. Peter Pan has delighted people of every generation for more than a century, so we are thrilled to bring him back to the screen next summer for today’s moviegoers.”
Kwan Vandenberg added, “We know that there is already great anticipation building for the next Super Hero film from Zack Snyder, and we are equally eager to see what he has in store for Superman and Batman as they share the big screen for the first time ever. The summer release corridor is also perfect for Joe Wright’s ambitious new Peter Pan adventure, reimagining the ageless story of the beloved and forever-young hero for audiences worldwide.”
Zack Snyder’s Superman/Batman film stars Henry Cavill, reprising his role as Superman/Clark Kent, and Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne. The film will also reunite “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane, and also stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.
Snyder will direct the film from a screenplay written by David S. Goyer, from a story co-created by Goyer and Snyder. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan and Wesley Coller serving as executive producers.
The film is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, Batman characters created by Bob Kane, and Wonder Woman created by William Moulton Marston, published by DC Entertainment.
The new Peter Pan adventure will be directed by Joe Wright from a screenplay by Jason Fuchs, incorporating J.M. Barrie’s classic characters. The film is being produced by Greg Berlanti and Paul Webster.

So it sounds like we'll now have to wait a few months for production to begin. Second quarter usually runs April through June. Our gut says we're not hearing the full story on the decision to bump both production and the release date on the sequel. We'll keep updating you as we get more information. Bummer.. but you're worth waiting for Man of Steel!
UPDATE 1/18: Batman-News.com insists Ben did injure himself over the holidays and that's what caused the delay. More to come..
"shifting of the start of production". Makes me really wonder now if the rumors of Ben &/or Henry being hurt are real. I could understand the realization of their vision part but the delay in filming? They wouldn't be pushing the start date to realize their vision. In my opinion, somebody has a booboo that needs healing. At least now they won't be filming in MI in the dead of winter.ReplyDelete
That is exactly what it sounds like to us as well. Why push back production.. doesn't make sense.Delete
I hope we're both wrong. Ben is supposed to be at the SAG Awards tomorrow night from what I understand. We'll see how he looks & if he has anything to say.Delete
Ben is definitely not injured. It's been confirmed by Gossip Cop. More details to come we're sure.Delete
He was pictured yesterday walking around with his wife and daughter, so it would appear he isn't that injured?? But who knows?! Maybe one of them isn't quite up to scratch build wise, and they need more time? I'm not sure what size they have in mind for Batman, (because rumours suggest he is a 'retired' version') but Ben didn't seem to look too bulky...although the type of clothes he was wearing could be a bit deceiving!ReplyDelete
Devastated that they pushed it back a year!! I wouldn't have through pushing back production a few months would delay the release for a whole year?! If they're so concerned with not releasing two films at the one time, they should release Peter Pan in 2016, and leave MOS2 next year! I'm personally not jumping through hoops over another Peter Pan movie!!!
I'm not surprised it's been delayed, didn't the same thing happen with MOS where they had to push back the release date? Peeved, but I guess it's a smart move seeing how much they're cramming into the film. I just hope they do it justice with the additional time given! I also hope Marvel don't release their film on that very weekend too...as that would be....interesting!!!ReplyDelete
How about this, instead of continuing to shoot themselves in the foot. WB makes the next film Superman and shelves Batman for 2016, this way you can knock out 2 movies or more while everyone is in peak physical shape. It's gotta get tiring putting all that work in only to get shoved back. as a fan WB needs to get their act together, no wonder Marvel is doing so well, they aren't giving fans time to forget about their existence. Still a loyal fan but not a happy one.ReplyDelete
Right there with you. Ever since they announced Batman in the so called sequel, I haven't been happy. As many have said, this is becoming less and less a Superman movie and more of a Justice League movie. I'm still leary of why they're moving the start date. Everything was set to go for next month. I doubt we'll ever know the full/real story. But with the move in the release date, they're now going right up against Marvel. This better be worth it.Delete
Henry will have time to attack another project : 007 is for him !!! Please !!!ReplyDelete
Funny thing is with Man From Uncle in the can and this delay with MOS 2 Henry would have had time to do the FSOG movie. I just hope he is OKay and the rumors of one of them injured is just that a rumor.ReplyDelete
Not the FSOG movie! Yes, in my mind, Henry was my Christian, but I really didn't want him actually playing the part. I personally don't think it would have been a good career move at this point. I would rather him be known as Superman than Christian Grey.ReplyDelete
The website that first put out the rumor of Henry being hurt is now saying it was a joke. Very poor timing on their part. Who really knows about Ben. Yes, Gossip Cop said there is no leg injury but rumors of Ben being hurt in some way were circulating before this news even broke about the delay in production. Now there are reports of a rib injury received during the holidays. A rib injury is easier to hide but could definitely put a kink in Batman duties. They take a while to heal. Obviously, this is all speculation.
The delay in production had my ears burning more than the move in release date.

I'm not happy that it's delayed but I am hoping that it means a Justice League movie is also in the works.
