The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Press Junket Interviews: Day 1

Day 1 of the press junket for The Man from U.N.C.L.E. has been a busy one. You can catch everything so far in our wrap. We'll be posting the interviews here, and first up is an eye-opening response by Henry, to the question of whether he's involved in the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel as rumored. WATCH HERE (directly on E! or on YouTube).

Henry also talks about the lighter side of U.N.C.L.E. - WATCH HERE (or directly on E!), as well as working with director Guy Ritchie, and Armie's weight gain! - WATCH HERE (or directly on E!).

And keep checking back for updates! -- Day 2 of the U.N.C.L.E. junket continues tomorrow in London.

Henry confirms to Kevin McCarthy that the ring he wears as Solo is not his family ring, but it does have a history of its own! -- WATCH.

Entertainment Tonight also tries (and fails) to get Henry to confirm or deny he's in the Fifty sequel.. WATCH. -- UPDATE 7/23: Henry later confirmed he's not part of the film.

Henry gives Access Hollywood details about the fight scene with Armie.. WATCH.

Henry talks about why he chose to play Solo after Superman, in a revealing interview with Time Out Australia:

But he took his The Man from UNCLE role as hero Napoleon Solo, he explains to Time Out, because he feels he still has something to prove. "I definitely chose this role to be contrary to Superman, he says. "Because when you have a movie of that size come out it's human inclination to say 'I now know what that person is', and you have to fight against that as an actor."

Not that Cavill's going to – in his words – 'go crazy and play a meth-head transsexual guy', but he wants the freedom to show the audience he has range. "The first time people saw me on a world scale was Superman and that's not necessarily what I do," he adds, "I'm a period guy to be honest."

The Jersey-born actor has a point. When we suggests Snyder's casting was brilliant counter-programming after his career until then, he agrees, but adds that "only people who knew my career beforehand would think that. Most people still think I'm American."

Cavill also says he had fun playing the dashing hero Solo in The Man From UNCLE after Superman's godlike selflessness and morally incorruptible nature. "I brought my all to Napoleon Solo as I did to Superman, just Napoleon Solo is very different character. He's a good guy as Superman is but he's so very different. He thinks of himself first as opposed to everyone else."

Henry rates Armie's accent, more during his interview with Toronto's Entertainment City. WATCH (at about 2:15).

KTLA asks Henry how he feels about the girls swooning over him.. his answer is the cutest. It's a MUST WATCH.

  1. I know I'll receive backlash for this, but I truly hope he does not. I would like to think he needs a vacation, do something he has not done before such as, I don't know build a boat or something? I just really don't have a good feeling about it and it's just my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Ok commence the bashing 😕

    1. Hi Michelle,
I totally agree with you, I think that he is so much better than that type of work. But unfortunately, Henry's next big movie Justice League: Part One doesn't start filming until 2016. So that would give him a full year of not working, and as an actor whose career is reaching mainstream, success it's good to keep working. With Henry on board, hopefully this sequel will be much better than the first one.
I was hoping that the Stratton movie would work out until I read that the lead role was recast. So maybe Henry and his brother can find another "Bond" style book to turn into a movie.

    2. I have so many mixed opinions about this. I really think he has worked an awfull lot these past years and with all the media attention he's constantly getting, I'm sure it's very exhausting. He has earned himself a little down-time, especially with Justice League and his whole body transformation coming up again, it won't hurt to recharge your batteries. On the other hand, it's showbiz. You kind of have to work constantly and "go with the flow" of offers, especially when you're just about to hit mainstream success. But I'm also not a huge fan of working, solely because you have to work to not be forgotten. I think he has done that in the past and with a franchise like DC/Superman/Justice League in the back, he could take a little more time to find something he's very passionate about, to find a project that let's him even more show what a great actor he is and he still won't be forgotten.

I, of course, don't know whether that might actually be the case for Fifty, or not and if so, you know, do it, own it, make it great, i'm gonna watch it, but if that's not really the case, I'd much rather see him decline the offer and wait.

    3. All of you guys have great points, but with showbiz and Hollywood you have to keep your name out there. Henry loves doing period pieces, but those leading roles tends to go to a Michael Fassbender or Benedict Cumberbatch. So working to keep your name out there is a good move but having your own production company should afford him the opportunity to work on projects that he loves.
Also, I read that he isn't 100% signed on for the Justice League movie, but if that is true, then this might explain this move. I also read the Batman V Superman isn't the sequel to Man of Steel but more a prequel to introducing Justice League. So Henry might be screwed out of a Man of Steel sequel if they don't sign him on. So my fingers are crossed that he get signed to the Man of Steel franchised.

  4. People just need to calm down about it. What happens happens. It's Henry's choice. Just enjoy all the stuff we're getting on UNCLE & BvS.

  5. henry would play christian greys (jamie dornan) devious business rival and is not a sado masochist like the grey character so i dont know why anyone would be upset with him doing it.

    1. The role of Jack Hyde tries to rape Anatasia Steel. It is not a role I would like for Henry

  6. Truly, I hope he does NOT do FSOG. That being said. I will still watch ANYTHING Henry puts out. #iloveHenry

    1. I agree with you, totally. Plus there's also the fact that the Jack Hyde character is not the main character and Henry should be the lead or at least a co-lead. It's probably fun for actors to play villainous roles, but the Jack Hyde character is pretty creepy.

    2. And it's just acting. I don't expect Henry to play the same kind of roles all the time, that would get old real quick. I support Henry in whatever he wants to do. Showing his diversity is always a plus no matter the character. I go see it 2 times just because it's Henry and it would in no way affect Superman or any other character he plays. Why should it.

    3. Yesssss!!!! To say you wouldn't go see it because he's playing Hyde? No way! Your limiting his talent and like River said diversity is key in acting. He's not always going to play just what you want him to play. I would go see it 3 times just to see Henry in a different light. It is a character not real life! Relax people!

    4. I agree, lighten up it's just a movie. Henry is not a pycho rapest! I would love to see him as this creepy Hyde. It shows his true talent, why? Because he would be that good he would make you hate him. Lol...I love it. He can't be goody 2 shoes all the time guys, it gets boring!

  10. Good or not good, I trust Henry. I'm sure he will tale the good decision for him and for his fans. What I like is the reaction or Armie. There is a realy complicity between us. Very nice to see. And it's just the beginning of the MFU's promontion. Wow !!!!

  11. As someone who actually read the 50 shades books and watched the movie and liked them, I would not want to see Henry in the role of Jack Hyde. I do not want to see him as a psychotic, would be rapist, abuser, creepy person.

    1. I agree. I would never see him as Superman or in a romantic comedy the same after that! It might be cool to be bad sometimes but it is just icky to be jack hyde. I wouldn't watch it.

    2. I'd like to see Henry play a bad guy. He's never played one. He's an actor for crying out loud. Jamie is on The Fall on Netflix. Talk about a creepy role. He's awesome in it. It's not fair to Henry to want him to limit his choices.

  12. I would watch Henry in anything that he does! I love Henry the person not the characters he plays. I would love to see how diverse he can be and I don't expect him to play the same hero roles all the time. I support him in what ever he does. As a Mr.Hyde as a turtle, as a drug addict, transexual, a tin cup even I don't care. Henry is a amazing actor and can do anything!
